Well that took a fucking turn holy hell

did anyone else notice how sayori's hair changes throughout this chapter? during the sweet romantic parts, it's down and mostly loose, while the parts with more conflict or where she's hiding something, it's in a bun. if it represents how "open" she is, then there's probably more to her reaction with the box cutter scene that we don't know yet. pretty interesting!

Good observation! I noticed the change but didn't connect it with her state of mind.

To be honest, I severely doubt that her current girlfriend tried to fucking murder her. Or even rape her, we'll get further context soon. Not to say it doesn't look that way, but I think the author often sets things up specifically to defy expectation. I would be more inclined to think she did something less crazy, like cutting her gfs clothes off, or maybe some demented "Let me mark you with a scar, it'll be artsy" type thing. Hell, even I've known a person who used "scarification" in place of tattooing. But damn, Igarashi really leaves you desperate for answers every chapter, a masterclass in writing in my opinion. Which is a breath of fresh air after some of the shit we've been fed as of late (looking at you, How Do I Get Together With My Childhood Friend)

wait so this whole box cutter thing already happened and now she's saying lets go on a double date with the box cutter girl? i might be confused here.

i think that scene was after the upperclassman and pigtail girl met. upperclassman went to go visit the dorms of ___ university and then her special went apeshit.

Well that certainly took a turn huh... But it somehow ended well I guess? Since she's still happy with her cray-cray girlfriend?
Thanks for the chapter!

I don't understand. It seems that in page 26 Kasumi is leaving and remembering Sayori senpai proposing a double date and warning her about another former letter. Did Sayori senpai also told her about what happened between she and her senpai?

But Sayori still proposed a double date, is she still with her senpai, perhaps?

I want Kasumi and Haruyo to be happy and for the story to not stray too far from the roots that made me love it to begin with please.

This is exactly how I feel as well. :/ We can only trust and hope.

The prospect of this series just being toxic yuri doesn't bother me on its own. The fact that Igarashi made het before this is not news to me either, but from the scanlator's comment for this chapter, I now find it hard to not view Dear Flowers as more like a spiritual sequel/spinoff of Dominant than its own thing. And from that I feel kind of silly for getting all excited about this series.

I don't agree at all. I don't know if this is the first yuri work from this author or not, but they took the time to learn, integrate and modernize the class S trope. The similarities so far between those two series is a somewhat toxic relationship present in AriSaku, but we don't know enough about it to know how this will unravel. From my perspective, the author is just playing with their audience ATM. Not sure if it will go to (really) dark places.

I really wish I had known about that older manga, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten as invested in this manga. I'll check out next chapter. This very well could be a fake out. I can't write that possibility off. However, even beyond that, the sudden change in tone and writing style with this third character is already disappointing me, even if it doesn't go down a similar path to that other manga.

This story has gone from fluffy to unhinged in record time.

People have noted dark elements in previous chapters, like a frequent motif suggesting hanging. Plus the suicide of Kasumi's friend, of course

That sure took a turn at the end there...

So I originally wanted to make my comment about how I was right about them being their seniors in class S-preends, but wrong about my guess that they followed the traditional class s route and went separate ways after high school, creating the drama for our girls on what to do, instead they just became a yuri couple. I also wanted to talk about how they mirror our two girls, with the onee-same beign the smaller and cuter one.

But then I got to the final part of the chapter and that was all thrown out the window.

And then I got to the final page and I am not even sure I am reading the correct manga anymore.

I do not want to kinkshame, but senpai your definition of "we two are happy with each other" seems ...off...

But on a serious note, I forgot about this till I reread the chapter...but senpai invited kasumi and her onee-chan to hang out with the two of them, AND phrased it as a double date...how the hell did they fix this? Did they fix this? Is she actually together with the yandere? Like I can excuse attempted sexual assault or holding her love at knife point in my yandere's, but I draw the line at attempted(?) sexual assault at knifepoint.

Actually, is this yandere x yandere? On my second reread right now I remmebered how in my first read of the chapter, I read "All that could make the flowers more beautiful is if senpai were laying here" as something incredibly yandere, aka her saying "if senpai's senpais corpse was laying in the flowers" here, before understanding what she actually meant...or maybe was my initial read correct? I also didn't realize how possessive the following pages actually were until now.

The second most interesting thing is that this final drastic flashback was preceded by the announcement "there was another letter before ours", and it isn't clear how that plays into the flashback yet. Did the expectations from that letter cause senpai's senpai's feel of betrayal in that final scene? Was the previous letter a warning about the dangers of the roleplay? Was the letter advising to break up if things became as possessive/yandere as this, something senpai ignored and now wants to "warn" our girls girls from doing?

The series is full of whiplashes, huh. Usually, so far, the next chapter has softened the darker cliffhanger. Let's see how it goes now... Maybe I would like the series more if it were a little less dark, hard to say. I usuall read these things for escapism. So this dark/toxic stuff is not my thing. But still, somehow I can't NOT like this (so far).

And a double date with the boxcutter girl? Abusive relationship or... maybe she is now better or... who knows.

So the box cutter is still a flashback, from before Sayori saying "we're great, hey we should double date"? Interesting.

I'm not so sure, I think page 28 shows her ending that conversation and walking away and the rest of the chapter is her ruminating on college and subsequently thinking about how to break the news before she ultimately does in the last few pages. Hard to say for certain.

You are right page 28 is not a flashback, but sadly everything after that, including the final pages has the big black bars of the flashback.

I think the yandere onee-sama backstory has tended to overshadow how messed up Kasumi’s whole “I’m so worthless I need to find a worthy new girlfriend for my kouhai/onee-sama” project is.

We’ve seen lots of basically wholesome yuri stories where an MC with low self-esteem gets healed by her loving partner. But Kasumi’s internal darkness has always seemed rather more significant than that.

Seeing a new chapter uploaded with these additional tags immediately made me assume the worst, especially with the way last chapter ended... Though I'm glad "nothing" happened to Kasumi, I'd never expected this development, but I can't say I dislike it. In fact, it's made me even more excited for what's coming.

It's nice to see the translation is now caught up (or is it, since we've now got to wait longer between chapters...). I'd really like to thank you, noighd, for the amazing scanlation work, and for going the extra mile with the credit pages and comments; your vast understanding of the Japanese language and the topics discussed in this story--from Class S to flowers--made me able to appreciate this manga much more, as I'd never heard of Class S prior to this. This manga has quickly become one of my favourites and I'd never have found it without your work. I've re-read previous chapters multiple times now, and each time this story never fails make me re-experience the emotions I felt on my first read. Igarashi Jun does such a good job at portraying the intimacy between Kasumi and Haruyo, and the strong negative emotions Kasumi experiences, like when she got stood up by Haruyo.

Really looking forward to the upcoming chapters and the direction the story's taking. Thanks again for the scanlation work!
