That was absolutely precious, Komaki's face as Erika put her shoe on was so good. This isn't just mastery of body language and posing and motion, but paneling and framing, too.

I didn't read the chapter--just looked for a second. The stuff you're describing uses a different background than the first page, which seems to be in the present. That typically signifies a shift in time or perspective.
