Tsundere? Nah man she's just toxic and possessive

joined Jan 21, 2020

Yea i dunno im not a huge fan of the short-haired girl. I get they were going for the cute kinda possessive but her actively sabotaging her friends social life is too toxic for my taste.

Yeah, seems pretty dysfunctional.
The short-haired one has this weird "I refuse to define myself as more than a friend even though I'm obviously obsessed with this girl, so the only way I can be exceptional is to make sure she has no other friends" thing going.

i would much prefer "mum" not to be used over "mom", its very distracting
unless its used to as distinct variation of "mom" in japanese then stick with "mom"

Mizuki reminds me a lot of Haruki from Warikitta Kankei Desukara. Ambiguously masc girl who realizes her feelings for her childhood friend and alternates between sabotaging and supporting her other relationships. This story is a bit less intense, though.

Landmine is more of a Yandere-lite than it is Tsundere.

seems like she's the one more in line with the jirai-kei archetype -- which is probably related to why she had those clothes to give away in the first place

Ew didn't like the direction this one ended up going in. Best part was when Shiori accurately read the room and clocked how annoying it would be as their 3rd wheel. Glad she still wants to be friends with MC after all that.

The issue is the toxicity of Mizuki clashes with what is supposed to be, as you said, tonally light-hearted. Her actions are manipulative and mean-spirited, which is off-putting when the author obviously intends it to come off as just cute jealousy.

That's the point. The seemingly "normal" best friend being the true landmine girl compared to the girl who dresses in flashy hyper fem outfits

Seeing that credits page gave me a double take, it looks great though so I can't complain.

i would much prefer "mum" not to be used over "mom", its very distracting
unless its used to as distinct variation of "mom" in japanese then stick with "mom"

Mom is a variation of mum tho, not the other way around

Mum is British English you dingus.

Moving on, I'm more bothered by the term 'landmine'. I know it's hard to translate 地雷 effectively, but isn't it exactly why you should romanise it instead of trying to find the correct translation? It's the same thing with ツンデレ、 先輩、etc. You don't go around trying to translate them, do you? Furthermore, the term as a fashion sense has eclipsed its usage as a type of personality in recent years. Another example would be trying to translate 派手子.

Nonoka is a reddit jirai girl and Mizuki is a twitter jirai girl. One larps and the other cuts.
