I don't know how the Japanese banking system works in detail but given the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Japan you likely wouldn't be seriously harmed in the worst case scenario, especially since she stole directly from the bank (so it wouldn't be your savings but the aggregate of money the bank has on-site) and that the bank would still be considered solvent given it's a loss from theft, not poor investment.
Didn't expect to look into Japanese banking insurance this evening though.
