Based on what I'm seeing in this first chapter, this is a pretty pure dom/sub story. People who are into that will like it, people who aren't won't.

The core of their relationship is so deeply reminiscent of Shiromine and Kurosawa's, especially in regards to the dynamic of a (love denying) hardworking smart character trying to "bring down" a natural genius character so they can be on equal ground in their relationship to the other, and more generally to those around them. The most significant difference as of now is that Komaki doesn't seem to currently be anywhere near as honest about her feelings towards Wakaba as Kurosawa was to Shiromine, which should add a bit of fun spice to it all.

Excited to see how it develops from here!

Yeah I think excuse is very possibly the big word here. I'm hoping this plays less into things being toxic, and instead plays more into oh no I keep losing to my childhood friend and she keeps having me kiss her, what a shame, truly the worst.

The vibes towards that are pretty huge. When the first chapter says "I hate her, I want to defeat her and I wish she would disappear" while showing "We've been together with childhood, I get possessive about her, and I chose to do whatever she asks", it's pretty hard to take Wakaba at face value. Especially when Komaki has been very explicit in what she wants.

I don't think it will lean into pure comedy of tsundere behavior. It looks like how their actions affect each other will also play a big part. But it also doesn't look like there is any falling in love left to do.

This is a web novel that was published on Kakuyomu. The publication as ended in 2022. Looks like second volume will be the last one, given the number of chapters on Kakuyomu. So it makes sense to have a manga being released right now, if they want the manga to boost the novel's sales.

It looks like most ot the stuff being released nowadays were first published as web novel, though. It makes sense to not take much risk as yuri is a small niche, but it's really nice to see people supporting authors once there is a proper release. 週クラ, which is maybe the most popular yuri novel now days, will also get a manga adaptation as well starting next month and the 4th volume of the novel will be released in spring. The web novel is still being published for free every week on Kakuyomu. It's even the most popular yuri novel on the platform.

It seems very likely to me that for this manga you're not supposed to be looking at these characters and judging them as people on moral standards (almost no media is written for the audience to morally judge it, just like Chick tracts and garbage like that basically lol), but rather feeling these characters as bundles of emotion and conflict and desire. Of course Komaki looks like a haughty bitch, we're not seeing any sort of "objective" portrayal of a character, we're seeing her through Wakaba's subjective perspective, tinted by her emotions.

Yuri is generally written from an abstracted point of view where the audience is not necessarily intended to involve themselves personally in the media at all. Even wall-kun otaku are getting too personal with it. ofc people don't tend to think that spicy media can also have other aspects and that's where we get antishippers and (the worse kinds of) proshippers

FYI, you can read and enjoy incest stories on the regular and not be a proshipper, it's called critical enjoyment
