girls into rock for sure, but the people I knew that were real into rock were more RHCP or Nirvana or maybe The Doors. Aerosmith occupies the "lame dad band" section of my music categorization brain (as opposed to a "cool dad band" like Pink Floyd), and I think that was to some degree the consensus in that crowd.

You folks have been ignoring the existence of the “Otherwise lame band with, like, 2, maybe 3 good songs, or even one decent, preferably early and obscure, album” category.

I think you guys are approaching this from a western, super familiar with them approach. If you hadn't grown up with buttrock radio stations and dads playing them, you wouldn't have that sort of association with the band.
