There are 2 female editors in the magazine. I wonder in real life if there are more, or less, female editors in a eromanga magazine.
Tanaka is a complete professional, even though she is the youngest in terms of employment time, and still learning. I wonder if she found this job with Eromanga in mind, or just any editor job of a manga magazine will do. But she really really loves her job.

Oh, I also saw she draws too, I wonder why she is doing that?

Does Toda want to get out of the eromanga ghetto? It feels like she's in the mentality Morinaga Milk was in with a couple of her manga.

It’s kinda funny to see the editor is pushing the envelope in letting such controversial material reaching print. Both the mangaka and the editor are committed to evoking a response from the readership. What’s even more hilarious is her boss, the chief editor who overruled her last chapter, seems to have drunken the cool-aid to see what happens, too.

It’s funny to me to see editor’s reaction to the manga… then she says, “Ok by me! It’s going to print!”

Unless I'm remembering wrong, while we don't really know what motivation is really driving her, Toda has explicitly said that what she wants to create -has- to be eromanga, I haven't seen any sign of that changing. On the contrary, the implication at the end of chapter 24 was that she was afraid she was losing her edge.

Toda dancing so happily gives me life.

Ngl the throwing up scenes worry me because I have no clue just what exactly Toda San is depicting in her stories. Like is what she's writing close to charactersnbeing sexually assaulted or am I missing something

It looks like there was consent initially, but was perhaps withdrawn partway through and the guy kept going anyways. Panel on page 2 has the guy pinning her down and she's saying "Stop." So yeah, rape seems to be on the money.

That said, I don't think it's the lack of consent that caused the reaction in Tanaka. Rape is prevalent in eromanga and as an editor I'm sure Tanaka has been exposed to that and worse stuff. It's just that she deeply cares for this character because it resonates with her. Vomiting is extreme, but having visceral reactions for fictional characters is not unheard of.

I think her motivation has a lot to do with Mukai Ryuuji (aka Rukai Yuuji).

The reason she took her works to X+C (instead of any other of hundreds of eromanga magazines out there) is because in her mind X+C is "Mukai's magazine" and she's chasing in his footsteps. She definitely wants to prove herself to him, win his approval and stand before him as an equal.

Well, at least that's how I read it. Mukai is Toda's biggest secret, one she has never revealed to anyone, not even Tanaka. You know how in Japanese culture "admiration" and "love" are closely related concepts with a very blurry border, don't you? I'm kind of eagerly awaiting the moment Tanaka finds about Toda's feelings towards Mukai -- to see if it will make her JEALOUS, mweh heh heh heh heh heh!

Don't you love how she seems to be dancing with two girls? No boys around her.

Tanaka is explicit that her love for comics comes from how they inspired and uplifted her, so possibly she has some trouble processing a comic that makes her feel despair. it's as you say unlikely to be the first time she's exposed to comics with negative events or emotions but this might be the first time she's really FEELING it.

Didn't notice until I saw your comment but yeah she is and it makes sense. Riya distrusts guys after all.

Not sure why takana puked again then. If it was a guy I would've assumed Riya had a redo of her first experience because of her distrust for guys even though it didn't really seem that way, but if sebu is a girl I don't see where exactly the problem was for her to react this strongly because from what we were shown Riya didn't seem particularily anguished.

hold up

I feel like the girl in this metamanga now needs to be forgiven for going to a wild sex party

"we were on a break" for you know, legit reasons, but there's a bit of dirty laundry on her side now too

In the first chapter she said that she wanted to become an editor because she loved manga, but she was originally not happy she was specifically an eromanga editor. She was unhappy because her critiques and enjoyment mostly came from the perspectives of character driven writing, while most of her colleagues and mangakas were more focused on just packaging the “utility” up in a nice looking manner. It wasn’t until she became the editor for Toda that she was able to get into the stuff like character motivations because Toda herself wanted to transcend just being porn for the sake of porn

Anyone else notice Toda' lockscreen is a picture of Tanaka in girlish cosplay? And that Tanaka said she wouldn't mind making miso soup for Toda every day?

good to know that someone noticed that too! I was eating when I read this and gosh I nearly choked reading those panels. The fact that this doesn't get tagged as subtext makes me doubt everything in my life rn lol.

I really ship them so hard, but an editor and her mangaka is typically pretty taboo. Maybe Kodama Naoko's Renai Manga? They were definitely wife and wife by the end, but even there, I don't think they had a kiss. And Seiko's art is definitely way less moe than Ritsu's. They do share a joint moral: If you're somewhat helpless, but have large breasts, your editor will adopt you and put her life on hold for you. We learn something about the manga industry with each new edition.

Tanaka staring at the breastfeeding feels like queer coding given her behavior in the rest of this manga.

I noticed that as well. The author did on purpose lol

Honestly, I like that there's no explicit romance in this. Tanaka and Toda already love each other in a platonic sense and have changed each other for the better in a way only great relationships can achieve. I'm a yuri fan as much as anyone on this website, but I'm not sure that they would stay so healthy in a realistic story like this one if they dated, given their very different emotional maturity levels.

Side note: the description of how Toda develops her stories is so relatable and fun to read! I am so in love with this manga.
