An interesting detail is that the sword in Yanyan's(?) flashback seems to be a rather decent depiction of a kopis or falcata or analogous - the Greeks may have picked the design up from the Persians - which in Classical Antiquity were widely popular from the Pillars of Herakles to northwestern India. Note in particular the distinctive C-shaped semi-enclosed grip which easily distinguishes those from the much later (possibly related) kukris and yataghans of similar blade form.
...and this concludes today's installment of hoplology geekout. :d
I thought it was khara but it was the bird. Nooo I don’t want her to die
Ah I didn't realize it was the bird, I also really don't want her to die. I've been keeping a certain distance between me and this series since the start, since I know the author likes to get extremely dark in some of their works. Seeing a character about to be burned alive in this otherwise goofy series is...horrifying and honestly upsetting. I'm personally not a fan of the author going in this direction.
Using manipulated pictures to save time creating backgrounds is a very valid way to save time in the professional art world. I personally think they fit in well enough and serve their purpose haha. Do you guys feel like these things take away from the reading experience? I’m really curious. Thank you~
I reread this chapter after seeing this and damnnn there's a lot of things in this chapter that haven't been drawn
I agree that it help save time and is less stress on the artist behind it I didn't feel it take away. I'm just glad to read. I don't think lack of background original art needs to be critiqued. Some things are harder to do then others.
Using photoshopped stock photos to use them as background is done by several manga authors and it has never been illegal, or unethical, as long as said pics are public domain, the author took them himself, or the rights have been bought. All manga these days are digitally drawn anyway. It saves them the hassle to hand draw detailed backgrounds.
I thought it was khara but it was the bird. Nooo I don’t want her to die
Now that makes things clear, I was confused on what the hell's going on in the last panels. I also thought it was Aria but it was the Raven girl and yes I also dont want her to die
Wait, the crows a girl? Was I the only one who definatly thought it was a dude?
Nah, I definitely thought it was a dude too.
TBF even ornithologists usually can't tell the difference without sticking a probe up the cloaca or seeing it lay eggs. Like a lot of animals that form "lifetime" pair-bonds in general, and birds doing so in particular, corvids be like "sexual dimorphism is for losers lul"
