Also amusing: I didn't know what the hell Kanjani∞ was, so I looked it up. Turns out it's a Japanese boy band managed by Johnny, and the name isn't supposed to be read as Kanjani Infinity but as Kanjani Eight! For whatever reason, they decided to use a figure eight on its side as a symbol for the "Eight" in the name.

I guess it's not that strange that Mieko -- who knows the band Kanjani∞ but doesn't know squat about mathematical infinity -- assumes that any figure eight, either upright or on the side, can only mean the number 8.

Also- I think it would be kinda bad to see the numbers if you got fixated on them.. seeing your friends or families numbers drop, wondering what you did that day that they didnt like, getting hung up on getting them to go up etc etc - but I think you'd want to ignore that kinda stuff if you made a cute manga series of this idea.

A sidenote that was left out of the initial TL, but has since been fixed on Mangadex, states that these numbers don't appear above blood relatives, so it's likely she can't (either because of that or Death Note logic)
