Sheena-san, the translator of Bosque Blanco Fansubs, loves this kind of "interpretation" jokes. You know, showing what the characters should have said (or really wanted to say) but couldn't bring themselves to.

Some people definitely seem to be misinterpreting the title. She's not a rival for Yamada, and I doubt she ever will be. She's just a comic relief side character who views Kase-san as her rival. (but obviously really just has a crush)
