I think you're not understanding the characters in this doujin. Mame(?) only started doing bad at the three-legged race once the other girl suggested that she was getting a boyfriend. Also near the end of she cries while saying that she's glad she has a partner. Partner is another way some people refer to their same-sex love interest instead of the traditional boyfriend/girlfriend one.

Yo, is the three legged race actually a thing in some countries? I would have ditched my events to take place in that...

I feel like there were 1 or 2 other stories similar to this but the plot was actually resolved and the girl lied about someone confessing their feelings just to see how the other girl would react

3 legged race competition? Fo' real? If i had to choose between that and race walking, I'd definitely go with the latter, no doubt about it.

I'm usually all about the solid yuri hookups, but an occasional one shot like this one can be nice too. In the language of manga: I'll be rooting for Mame and Misora. Good luck girls. May the goddesses of yuri bless your budding love.
