Hm, it's kinda clunky in parts, but interesting enough for me to keep reading. Which seems to be a recurring theme with these new Yurihime series

It uses similar characters to the oneshot you're thinking of, but the author assured people over Twitter that the similarities end there.

Hehe, that outfit, that sword, that "protective prince" attitude, they are all Utena down pat. ♥ ♥ ♥ And the Yurihime sign made me laugh out loud.

All yuri reeks of cliche, that's how genre fiction works. If you don't embrace, you're in for a sad time in this land.

There are different ways to handle cliches.

For example by making the characters' personality and motivations interesting, by adding a "little something" that makes the cliches palatable.

This vague "war on drugs" by a vampire (?) and a werewolf (?) controlled by a religious (?) order of warrior nuns falls flat. The relationship between the two MCs isn't really fleshed out. "I will eat you whole when you're back to human". And so what? The blushing vampire because of sucking on breasts made me roll my eyes up. Going for the gap moe are we?

Still meh.

I doubt the readers of whatever magazine it's published in will rate it very high unless it steps up its game. Japanese readers are seasoned and they are hard to please.

And yet, there's a no end of crappy generic manga that get years of publication instead of more interesting ones.

Also did anyone notice her bite? She bit directly IN FRONT of her neck, on the part where she's supposed to have a windpipe and then the next page shows the bite mark is at the SIDE of her neck. A little nitpick but continuity is a thing lol

There need to be more yuri manga that are not all about romance. So this is kinda promising in that regard. I agree that it feels a bit rough around the edges at various points, but I take what I can get ...
