So I hope they fired whoever put the sign on the front of their building.

This checks every box I have.
Definitely reminiscent of Dorohedoro, at least when it comes to body types.

Sawada looks cool and composed but Koga is a walking disaster imo, hiting on her direct superior the first day on top of that...

This one hits all the things for me, big thumbs up! I needed a new buff-girls series after the untimely end of "Torako" ;_; And on top of that, adults involved in an actual story?!

... I do agree on the monsters, though. Seems like they've got a lot of 'splainin to do on how they became/why they still are such a problem

Gotta say, those are the least threatening monsters I've seen in manga in a long time.

Not fast moving, vulnerable to physical attack, their only real defense is that they produce a creepy sound. So someone standing back with a sniper rifle could take them out no problem, or even regular troops with noise-cancelling headphones. It's honestly a surprise they haven't all been wiped out already.

Well, it was said that only a small amount of people are able to resist the debilitating effect the weird sound/vibration they make has, and being that they were allegedly created for purpose of releasing on the presumably-armed-enemy, I imagine that a majority of folks are just struck dumb/stunned/feared in place whilst the backwards walking goopmonsters chomp them.

I'm liking this a lot. One of things where initially it doesn't seem like your kind of work but eventually you love it.

Also, the agency is called "Waste Disposal", not, I don't know, "Anti-Apocalypse Agency" (AAA), so I don't think the story wants to portray them as all that doom and gloom. Just something some people have to get rid of.

I misread the title as "SOCIAL Hazardous Waste Disposal" so I was expecting it to be a twist where it's like a SpecOps that hunts down hikikomori or something. This is pretty cute though.

Pretty sure they'd be rank useless against actual combat troops who'll just blast them into smithreens from way further away than their SAN Check inducing wail has any use. And can just murderize them with fairly simple combat drones in close terrain if need be, not like you could field the buggers alongside human troops anyway so they'll be completely unsupported against such tactics.

They have "terror weapon you introduce into the enemy rear areas to fuck up the civvies and sap morale" written all over them basically. Presumably made to be a real PITA to actually root out conclusively - no word yet how exactly they replenish their numbers but the mere fact they keep crawling out of the woodwork in places like Tokyo long after the war, despite specialist agencies dedicated to wiping them out posthaste, implies they rank somewhere around rats and cockroaches in terms of being hard to get rid of for good.

They barely explained the capabilities because it was out of scope for the manga. On the practicality side, however, this type of "munition" would be utilized the same as any other urban or metropolitan sphere bioweapon, insidious, difficult to purge, a constant hazard like leftover landmines, salted earth but not irradiated. There was probably a kill switch originally but I got the distinct impression several things went badly, maybe due to espionage.

I thought this was very rough, but kind of amazing, really fertile story that could be expanded here.

Biological agents basically are a terror weapon used against the enemy rear areas - already because deploying them anywhere near the frontlines would be a really great way to inevitably infect your own troops and nobody wants that. Makes you wonder about the delivery method though, these things seem a mite large to smuggle into the target area like you can with pathogens and I rather doubt they'd survive ingress by missile...

More likely projections on the actual effectiveness and survivability in the wild of any built-in killswitch features there might have been were wildly over-optimistic, possibly combined with reckless removal of such safety and/or excessive deployment by the makers as a final fuck-you gesture should the war have gone down the drain for them - the kind of regime that might develop and actually deploy this kind of rather baroque terror weapon strikes me as the kind also predisposed to picking fights with overwhelmingly powerful coalitions due to badly impaired leadership judgement, and sufficiently petty and unhinged to try and DELETE FUCKING EVERYTHING once it becomes indisputably apparent they're going to get their shit pushed in hard.
Compare the attempted national self-immolations by the Nazis (and their increasingly gratuitous efforts to level London with a succession of V-weapons) and the hardliners in the Imperial Japanese regime in '45, and both distinctly pettily taking out their frustrations on unfortunate prisoners still in their clutches... not hard to imagine fictional radical regimes starting to undiscriminately throw whatever weird unpleasantness their R&D boffins might have managed to cook up at the enemy once defeat becomes inevitable.

Well, who's to say this isn't the natural progression of a hikikomori's growth? I'm willing to accept a headcanon where these are what otaku become after delving too deep.

I think I like that idea more than anything the author could come up with, to be honest. Maybe the sonic weaponry the monsters have is obnoxious anime op/ed songs and idol music. Most people are incapacitated by sheer annoyance, and only those with a certain amount of familiarity with otaku stuff are able to resist it. That's why you have to separate your heart and mind from the job, otherwise you could become one of them.

And honestly, what normal person doesn't feel like they need a cold shower after interacting with some of the creepier parts of otaku culture?

edit: also second panel on this page would make a great reaction image.

It at least appears that the source material has some more chapters untranslated.

Did no one know about Lilyka officially translating this series?
