To be fair, they were only step sisters for a short time and when they were already a bit "old", relatively speaking.

Also, Ume is best mum and really understanding individual, and the Dad is working to become the chillest dude ever so it's no real surprise.

I don't get why people complain about the lack of consequences of coming out when the biggest drama is to come : coming out publicly in front of Mei's grandpa and the other bunch; with the risk of Mei rejecting Yuzu for embarrassing her or else before they finally get together.

It's the calm before the storm.

"We're chill that you and your step-sister were banging each other"

They sadly didn't have sex yet.

Yeah, I thought I should just suffer through it just to see the ending of one of first yuri series I ever read.

If I was in that situation, I guess I'd just come back to see how it ends but only when the actual last chapter is published. I still think this series is best read in one go.

Or just forget it altogether, I think that happened more often than not when a series disappointed me.

What I did was to skip like 15 chapters, you know when Harumin sister showed up and then Yuzu was like "I'm going to be the next press or I'll quit school" and that was so dumb I had to stop reading and I couldn't bring myself to resume that arc, but then, there was that chapter 36 that made a lot of noise everywhere so I had to check it out and now I'm here still not knowing exactly what happened in those chapters but not feeling lost tbh, I guess Citrus is not a masterpiece, is a very easy to read entry level fictional story that doesn't try too hard (and sometimes it tries so little that is funny) but waiting each month to read the next thinking that it will fix itself somehow... That will leave you feeling empty, it really is better to take a break or quit.

i scrolled through all the pages in 10s and did not see mei.

Technically, It's Ume and Mei's dad marriage that will be in jeopardy with Yuzu and Mei's relationship. However, since Mei's grandpa is like the main antagonist of the story then it's understandable at this point.

But Gramps became chill after his arc, who would have thought that he will return as the yuri-hating dude again.

Honestly, their marriage is more of a benevolent scam than anything else. The point was for Ume to take care of Mei, I guess if Mei and Yuzu ends up together, they don't have any more reason to be together at all. Unless they end up fancying each other, which would be cool for both of them!

I wonder though, how that would work : it's not like they can control their children's behaviour, I'm curious as to why it would render their marriage invalid or threaten it?

I think we may have reached the event horizon where each new chapter of Citrus causes more people to drop the series than ever started reading it in the first place.

The reason why they got married is too ridiculous to take seriously LOL To be honest, it ruined the story for me because the first three arc was too good and portrayed almost realistically. Well, Matsuri's arc was too entertaining to suspend my disbelief. However, after that, the quality of the story went downhill, the only good thing about arc 5 to 9 is how Mei and Yuzu developed a more romantic and healthier relationship.

You know, Yuzu's parents' reaction and Harumi's reaction makes way more sense than any drama Mei and her grandpa has.
Some people would just accept like that. Even more people with no religious beliefs and open mind like all the three always were.

Same. So disappointed. Next thing is Gramps telling Mei that if she wants to marry her stepsister, "By all means go ahead, why didn't you tell me before that's what you wanted?". And we find out all this drama was in Mei's head.

EDIT: I wonder if there is any chance we get an official HaruminxMatsuri ending here :-(

Citrus recap at the top of my head:

  • Yuzu and Mei meet.
  • Yuzu sees Mei smooching Amamiya-sensei.
  • She frees Mei and Amamiya is never seen or mentioned again.
  • Matsuri comes outta nowhere and makes Mei jealous.
  • Mei decides the best solution is to kiss Matsuri.
  • Matsuri blackmails Mei, but nothing ever comes of it, no one finds out she got smooched by Mei.
  • Oh, time to go on a school trip. Tachibana 1 & 2 appear. 1 seems to love Mei.
  • Yuzu is oblivious to Tachibana 1's feelings for Mei, and acts indecisively.
  • Tachibana 1 and Aihara 1 find out they both love Mei. Tachibana 1 confesses to Mei.
  • Mei decides the best solution is to say yes, but nothing comes of it and they go home, lol.
  • I think they're finally dating now, I'm not sure.
  • Nene & Harumi's sister appear.
  • Nene dyes her hair. Harumi's sister wants to lynch Yuzu & Nene unless Yuzu becomes the next StuCo pres.
  • Yuzu delivers an inspirational speech. Harumi's sister is okay with this. Never gets brought up again.
  • Yuzu has a job.
  • Yuzu meets Shirapon-senpai.
  • Shirapon-sensei loves Mei (why though), but backs off like 4 chapters later. Nothing really happens at this point.
  • They go on a trip. Cue the infamous incomplete sketches of the pages in one of the chapters.
  • Oh, Mei has a marriage lined up.
  • Mei decided that not telling Yuzu about it was the best idea.
  • Mei decides that even though things are not okay, she should run off and complete her duties as Aihara 2.
  • Mei cries and disappears.
  • Yuzu is sad for 4 chapters.

Well, it's as good reason as any other. They are both adults who got their lives going. One gets his daughter taken care of, the other sees her life conditions level up. I think it's not as ridiculous as you and I make it sound. After thinking about, it's a pretty fucking brilliant idea!

A beneficial arrangement for two parties, that's what marriage is all about. In terms of "love marriage", it is a bit of a scam but otherwise, it's a perfect win-win.

I'm more disappointed that Harumin will only hold the title of the Best BFF Award. Seriously, Harumin becoming the third wheel to Yuzu and Mei is like a dream canon for a lot of Citrus fans.

I'm surprised anyone expected much drama from the coming out scene, it was obvious that her mother was going to be super understanding. Plus given how subtle Yuzu is she probably knew at least some of this for a while.
Meis dad never seemed to be the type to get worked up either but he took it better than expected.

I for one really liked this chapter.

If you think you so, but the fact that no one marries another person for the same reason why Ume married Mei's dad made it laughably ridiculous imo

I wanted Harumin to be with vice president chan (drill twintails with big eyebrows)... Both are alone, or at least anything else to focus beside Mei and Yuzu.

Well, Himeko is propably going to be ship with Shirapon senpai, since the Harumin x Matsuri ship is too strong to sunk now. you can even see it in the anime and drama cd.

Will you look at that! Something happened! Actual developments took place! Didn't think Saburouta had it in her anymore.

I kid, I kid, but this was a lot better than a lot of the more recent chapters. And it looks promising to go into the next.

I think Saburo Uta purposelly didn't want Yuzu and Mei's parents to be the evil villains of the story because it will be too hard to write a happy ending, so, the control-freak Grandfather has to take that role.

But to be honest, if you first read the summary of Citrus, you would think that Yuzu and Mei's parents would be the thorn in their relationship.

It's funny to read the comments here honestly. People seem to be always complaining no matter what direction the story takes. Why not chillax and enjoy the arts, the fluff, the unnecessary drama (not as angsty as Kodama Naoko my fav of course) and just hope for a happy ending lmao. It's all about managing expectations ya know, and if it dissatisfies you so much, kindly look for another good manga or just draw yourself. (and before you jump at me all angry and defensive, please know that I probably share the same opinion as you on this manga. But hey, I am still reading and so are you)

Well, this is a forum, so anyone can say whatever they want in a respectable manner. I mean, what's the purpose of a discussion forum, if all of us just have one-sided opinions.
