Based on Fuuko's narration at the end, it seems her complicated feelings are rooted in the toxic, defeatist mindset Mashiro has instilled in her: that she is destined never to be anyone's first, should settle for what Mashiro provides, and that they are, in some sense, kindred spirits because of this. It's a very nasty and unhealthy idea, and one that Fuuko likely clings to whenever things don't go her way (as they did recently with Yuni).

I don't think Fuuko has any genuine romantic feelings for Mashiro beyond that, and Mashiro's strength comes from keeping Fuuko isolated and depressed. She's like a parasite taking an opportunity. This is not sustainable and not the endgame for Fuuko (I'm sure). It also potentially positions Yuni as Fuuko's savior, since she can show Fuuko that she can be someone's number 1. If the author intends for Fuuko to have a good ending, this chapter makes me more confident that she and Yuni are endgame.

yeah I'm a bit surprised how few people are really noticing this, and that it isn't tagged with dubcon at absolute bare minimum.

If you look at the previous pages, she's just apathetic and doesn't refuse Mashiro.

On page 21, you can see Fuuko willingly kissing Mashiro.

Also, the imagery of the spread is clear: she's covering the eyes of her child self herself, symbolizing that she willingly loses her innocence. Emotionless sex doesn't mean rape or dubious consent (also, they have at most a couple years difference).

This really gets me thinking, what does Mashiro ultimately want? She claims she doesn't love fuuko, but you have to be obsessed to some degree to track her down & stalk her. I wonder if she's still playing around with any other girls or if she's dedicating her time only to Fuuko. On a second read, she's actually a much more complicated character than I thought. It says a lot that she wants Fuuko to live alone and die alone, almost like she wants her to share in her suffering.

I feel so bad for Fuuko, and this explains so much how she ended up the way she did and her personality, on top of the other stuff we learned about her in the past.

Also, once again we have more religious symbolism. Mashiro praying to god, Fuuko's virginity literally being taken inside the church and her being "stained" by her own blood. You could also interpret Mashiro's words as her confessing her sins. And love stated to be some kind of curse god bestowed upon humans. You could also interpret some of this as meta commentary on Class-S? They'll never actually find true love with other women, it's "just" sexual desire. (I'm 100% reading too deep into this Manga but it's fun so idc).

I was getting that sense in past updates too. She at least wishes Fuuko would make her Fuuko's number one and was dissapointed Fuuko didn't seek her out. We see her repeatedly asking Fuuko if Fuuko loves her this update, while knowing Fuuko is still carrying a torch for Fuuko's first love. Mashiro also liked how impressed with and focused on Mashiro Fuuko was when younger.

This chapter we get her whole love ideology, where Mashiro thinks it's impossible for her to love or be loved. That explains all this behavior. With love off the table, she'd like to monopolize Fuuko as much as possible. Fuuko getting involved with someone else is acceptable as long as Fuuko comes back to Mashiro in the end, but Mashiro took action because that wasn't happening this time. She is pursuing what she thinks is the deepest and most meaningful connection she can have with someone.

Yuni basically fell out of love with Nanase, because Nanase has zero EQ and is unable to provide what Yuni needs: attention and love.

I suppose they complement each other that way, Nanase and Yuni: one with zero EQ the other with zero IQ. Proof being that they are still "together". Otherwise this story would have been like five chapters long probably haha.

Picking up from off my previous comment, I'm more confident now that Yuni will need to "save" Fuuko from this woman and that her and Fuuko are endgame. That tear and sending back the earring were rough; she's reaching out for help. For her part, Yuni still doesn't match with Nanase. It's not really a matter of being good girlfriends or not anymore. They're just different people and it doesn't feel genuine, especially on Yuni's part. A lot of effort needed.

I had to double check—Fuuko chased off the girl that Nanase was "weirdly close to" in middle school, but she does indeed recount how she and Natsume knew one another since kindergarten (ch35 p21). I'm guessing Nanase's just got that "dumb MC plot device" energy wherein they don't remember having met the romantic interest when they were little kids only to reconnect later on in life.
In a funny way, Nanase kinda gives off a more conventional non-drama "RomCom Protagonist" vibe with her habit of situational blindness and "I'm just a normal girl (who attracts everyone around her)" mentality. So if this were a comedy-focused story from her POV, Yuki would fit right into that "girl I knew back then but forgot until the right narrative reveal" position.

But I kinda agree that Nanase might just not be cut out for romance, at least at this point. She's all-in on sports stuff, and it would seem that everyone that we're meant to care about that has feelings for her would require a relationship that gets directly in the way of things Nanase herself wants to do. If Yuki could chill tf out a bit, maybe it could work, but I wouldn't be holding my breath.

Given Nanase's personality, I could see it being the case that she would not remember what was a very big deal for Yuki. I believe this is the real explanation.

Yuki unmasking makes me think we are near the end. It's abrupt for her to suddenly do it with no set up after many years of masking, but it would fit if we are wrapping up.

They could end this next chapter and it would be a better set up than so many yuri, so it ending in the next few chapters wouldn't surprise me. It's been a good run. We just need a little setup for Yuni to rescue Fuuko rather than continuing with Yuni's passive self defeating behavior.

Yeah even while Nanase is "trying" she keeps repeatedly demonstrating that she doesn't understand Yuni at all. The one campfire scene a few chapters back where she tries to comfort Yuni about her mom not always being around but the absolute last thing Yuni wants to hear is pity because she adores her mom and refuses to see her upbringing as a burden, this chapter where she misconstrued Yuni looking longingly at a couple playing tennis as her being interested in tennis. They're just extremely not compatible.

IMO, Fuuko's trying to distance herself from Yuni to protect her from Mashiro's antics: no cheating, no leverage for blackmail.

Nanase keeps on being the worst girlfriend and sucks at communication. She doesn't get Yuni at all and lives in her own little world.

Yuki lives in an illusion of being important to Nanase, when Nanase cares only about herself, volleyball and the "win" that is to have a girlfriend. Nanase's gonna get stabbed here.

Yuni will save Fuuko from Mashiro and Fuuko will save Yuni from Nanase. Trust.
