Krusty the Clown gif what the hell was THAT?

I love Sal's work overall but I had no idea what was going on in the second half of this and that ending did nothing to help me there. Good luck in future works I guess, not shocked this was axed unfortunately

As I've said before if I had to guess she was told after volume 1 that she had to wrap it up with volume 2 or around that time window, and it would explain why volume 2 is the way it is. Feels like she had to throw 5+ volumes worth of ideas into volume 2.

Man Sal Jiang, and us, really got robbed on this one. There was so much potential. You could tell Jiang had a lot they wanted to tell with this story but the embers got snuffed before the fire could really get going. Shame.

about as good a finale as could be hoped for given everything. hard to say what was sal losing her way a bit vs having to wrap it up so fast. i loved volume 1 (and tae-wol, always tae-wol)

definitely still looking forward to whatever she does next

Yeah, it really is... :( I wonder if it got axed and it didn't gain enough popularity in Japan. For a well-known mangaka in the yuri community like Sal Jiang, you'd at least expect her other series to find similar success to her hits. It would have been nice if this one had lasted longer, the side characters had really lovely designs.

honestly a real shame, the story was taking its time setting up a long term plot but the curse of yuri meant that it kind of couldn't have. So it ends before it really gets to take off which sucks because I don't really like the ultra rushed set-ups serialized manga have to go for in order to not risk being cancelled before they get to do anything with their premise like what happened here.

I really don't agree with most of the criticism but Wicked Spot would have needed 50 chapters at least to tell its story and it just was never getting that was it. Which is a real shame.

Yeah she clearly had to rush things early and towards the end and that's where most of the criticism came from. Would be nice if some of the more aggressive comments thought of that a bit. Unconventional yuri series seem to get a short leash sometimes. These kinds of stories need the kind of room to breathe that they aren't always afforded regardless of quality. Plenty of reasons for that, though. Will be reading her next work the second it comes out. I'm also glad these two got together in the end or moved clearly in that direction, so I'm alright.

Fwiw, it's hinted that Hanako is the daughter of the antagonist witch, because of her remark about how she had grown up.
Like, she made an experiment to have a kid with a human, then abandoned her for some reason.

Guess that plot thread was planned, but Sal Jiang didn't have the time to weave it in.

What a waste of good character designs, I really liked the main pair (visually, since there wasn't much development yet).

Definitely agreed, and yeah lesbian media in general sadly gets the short end of the stick, with things like this that branch further outside of Romance often getting an even shorter end of that stick.

Yep. I said it before but this was published in a new magazine, with all works being yuri or yuri adjacent at the moment. New magazines tend to bet on one series to be the hit (and so they are longer than the others) considering the plot was always presented as big/ambitious, I am sure this one was the one the magazine had all it expectations but it didn’t go as they planned. I am sure the one that ended up being the favorite child is the k-pop idol one, something of Unnie? I think

Honestly I also didn’t like the first volume of this very much either. And in the case she was told to wrap it at the end of the first volume, I don’t understand why add more characters and plots.

I want to add that Sal Jiang has mostly work on seinen, josei (non focused on yuri type of josei magazine) and self-published. This magazine is josei but most of their stuff is yuri so maybe Sal Jiang yuri is not the taste of the general/bigger yuri public. Battan is a good example of this too as she mostly works on adult oriented magazines too instead of yuri (or yuri focused) magazines, so the type of public may be different

Aaah, 17 chapter is enought for a conclusion but it seen a very complex story that was axed anyway

Yeah I could see something like a simulpub helping, unfortunately though a lot of official digital translation services lately are jumping into ai slop translations...I'm so tired v_v

I enjoyed it for what it was, but it ended about exactly how I expected it would after the axing news.

Missed potential is how I would describe it in the end, I enjoyed the characters and the art a ton but the story simply didn't get enough breathing space to make sense or keep any semblance of a proper pace.
