you're right, thank you! It already confused me at first. I thought it was a callback to her mentioning she was bad at talking, and that it in this case would mean "I'm not too bad at dealing with people, but when they ask me why I'm dating a girl, it's another story", but the potential form here wouldn't really fit if that was the case

But it's unconventional in the sense that almost every opening chapter, not just in yuri but in pretty much all genres, sets up some kind of conflict and/or some direction that the action will go. This just goes "Hi! So, we're having a pretty good life here." Even the initial hint of "Maybe I won't feel good enough for the girl I'm with because I'm ordinary and she's exceptional" gets instantly turned away. There's a certain amount of guts to coming in with completely unmixed fluff and zero implication of anything happening.
