And Oh! I have another hypothesis! What if part of the reason why so many people there are in drag is because they found out early that the new girl will without a doubt be isolated and hunted in a school like this, so they decided to play drag queen to be supportive, and get in touch with a bit of their feminine side along the way! What a way to play Among Us!

I assume it's going to be more that each character will be given a unique reason. That would be the smart decision from a writing perspective at least, since you can then tie this in with their unique personalities, and their plot arcs. It is very likely that for at least one of them your idea will be true though.

It would entirely undermine the premise of the manga, but I want this to be like that one Discworld book where everybody is secretly a woman and hiding it, thinking they're the only one.

Monstrous Regiment. Not Pratchett's best book, imo, but still quite a fun read. Love the 'flash sides', swear I've had a few myself when dealing with caffeine withdraw... (The migraines got so intense.)

That's a solid guess as well! Having to pretend to be a boy themselves in an establishment full of men could also be a reasonable idea, meaning that they're a lot better hidden a lot others! And in this type of environment full of drag queens(?) it could be great that whoever they are, they don't have to hide any more and they can blend in!

But it does raise the issue that no matter how you look at it, boys and girls are still different, no matter how you try to say that all people are equal, so if it's a normal school, someone who's a student will found out soon enough and it may not even be the protagonist. (What can I say, the biology determines far too much, testosterones and estrogen, things like that) The two major blocks are P.E. class and bathroom (and they also happen to be the major doubts and concerns for transgender). And unless the school has a particularly advanced system, there's bound to be some issues.

Good Idea! Personally if the author can actually pull it off and give many of them a unique reason then it would be really awesome! I mean, simply "getting in touch with their own feminine side" is a solid reason but it's far too generic, and if dude's going to befriend the lot of them, then there better be some fresh stuff!

Transgender could likely be a reason at some point, but it all depends on how serious the author takes this. I mean, acting kind and gentle and feminine is one thing, wearing dresses/wearing longer hair is another which is not that big of a deal (men in the past don't even have pants), but going as far as putting things in their chests to make breasts look bigger is likely a gender identity stuff.

Really cute even if the "twist" is completely obvious. I really like the art style and character designs.

I think that squarely and swiftly puts "Kitano is the girl" to rest. Kitano is just a girl. :P

The reveal to the vial of skin melting poison is fucking ridiculous lol love it.

I still think there is a possibility that Kitano is the girl, and she was just envious of her sisters because she isn't cute enough to dress the way she wanted (a trope you see a lot to re-twist things, again)
Not the same but this one reminds me of Nisekoi, the shadow of the girl changed shape a lot during the manga for convenience.

Still, this give us more possibilities! I also would preffer if Kitano was just a girl and not the girl. (how do you make letters cursive?)
I don’t think the shadow was the girl though, and it was just someone who was also willing to expose themselves too

Well, if Kitano is trans, then this is not yaoi.

WHOA, I did not expect to get a de facto trans confirmation on Kitano this quickly, and for the fallout from that to be (somewhat?) resolved within the same chapter??

And to end it all off with a vial of evil poison????

I have no fucking idea what this author is cooking, but my ass is seated and ready

Kitano being trans was a very welcome surprise, with the premise of the manga being the way it is I'd be surprised if at least one character wasn't.

Maybe I missed something, but was it confirmed that Kitano was trans? It kinda read to me like they just liked women’s fashion. Not saying that it wouldn’t make sense if they were, just that removing the yaoi tag might be premature.

Saw some post on the author twitter and I think this will be the case for the main girls! I really like Kurada so I hope she has some crazy reason haha

No confirmation for now (that's why there is no tag yet). Some pople just enjoy getting their hopes up, I suppose. Though with literally a class full of potential girls, the transness will hit sooner rather than later.

unironically Girly in this chapter reminds me of the Wreck it Ralph "I'm cringe and that's based" meme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19SO6FyCIcM

denying Kitano looked good: failing to be based and ending up cringe
crossdressing to understand Kitano better: acting "cringe" and ending up based

To be fair to Girly in his original reaction to Kitano, she's the one who told him she didn't want to dress that way, so it kind-of made sense he'd go out of his way to downplay it, rather than add more focus to something he thought she didn't like.

Also, I wonder if the twist will be that everyone in that class (with the possible exception of girly) is actually a girl (cis or trans) and the whole "only one girl" thing was started to give them a bit of a shield against the rest of the school. That would make the principal's attempt to out one of them a bit odd though, unless he had some other plan Girly preempted.

In a similar vein, I wonder if the vial of "poison" will be another fake out and it'll just be some exfoliant or something, since chemical exfoliants are literally just dilute acid.

I see...now we can see the first time the title recall, Girly 'Debut'. And I think that almost concludes the Kitano arc right here, since he - look, this is more of a 'comfortable more when wearing dresses' situation, gender identity is still a long way to go, so for now we're going to refer to Kitano as a he - just successfully came out, and earned Girly's acceptance in one chapter.

It's certainly not a surprise by any means, since we can already tell that the excuse from last chapter is but a smokescreen to fool impulsive gullible guys like Girly.

And I really like when Girly admitted that he tried and still couldn't understand the joy of Kitano's mindset, but still appreciated Kitano's make-up efforts because of it and encouraged him as well.

And now that I think of it, they're in High School, aren't they? Just in time for puberty to be at its high, and that's when the body start to show its secondary sexual traits. So perhaps if Girly calm down and do some research and observation or something, then I'm sure he'll have eliminated at least half the femboy contestants no problem.

And that implication at the end...this story isn't supposed to be a school murder mystery, but a cross-dressing discovery journey, so I would guess that bottle either literally is make-up stuff, or that's a way of hindering others' beauty because this one person's got the jealousy or something.

Looking forward to next chapter!

Literally all of them are wearing collars of some sort and several appear to have visible breasts, so that's probably not going to work out. Also, it would be a pretty lackluster story if that had a chance of working.

People forget that GNC is a thing. You can be fine being a boy and like cute things and want to dress like a girl.

I'm already seeing ~discourse~ arise about this one but imma be so real this just seems really sweet and earnest so far

Is it yaoi? Is it het? Is it t4t Yuri? Its probably too early to tell, but a part of me thinks it could have aspects of all of them depending on where the story goes. I think this could end up being really cute.

While it's true that GNC is a thing, and I'd be a bit surprised if that didn't cover at least one person in the class, the look on her face when Girly said she was a guy does not scream "just in it for the cute clothes."

Honestly, I'm pleasantly surprised by chapter two. Normally I hate manga like this, but while I still won't call this a masterpiece or anything, I might keep reading it for now.

The confusion is mostly due to the fact that in manga, the authors rarely address the topic of transness, unless it's a work dedicated to the topic.

Kitano, on our side, can only be interpreted as trans. On the Japanese side, the topic is irrelevant. It's about boys crossdressing, being cute and maybe falling in love with boys(?). It's like Prunus girl. Whether the character is trans or not isn't the point. It's a romance between a boy and another gender-ambiguous character.

Well, to me, Kitano is trans, there's not much debate to have.
