Was I the only one getting the vague impression that coworker was originally planning on walking into the sea before finding a new girlfriend?

There was a moment, yes.

No, you're not. I actually scrolled back up to the tags to check if there's some massive oversight.

The more I think about this the more I'm convinced she was at least having suicidal thoughts.

Coworker skipped work to travel to the sea, seemingly on impulse but very much an intentional and strange choice that specifically takes her far away from anyone whom she expects might recognize her.
She talks about how she feels misunderstood and like nothing she does helps or changes anything and how it's lead to her recently losing her girlfriend in what's implied to have been a rough breakup; basically her life sucks and she has no one who can understand her or help her cope with her negative feelings building up and no outlets for how she's feeling.

More abstractly, the large panel on page 16 as she talks about it is portraying the ocean not as something beautiful to admire but rather, a pitch black void that the character is walking towards alone, seemingly to be swallowed up by and disappear into as she talks about her life in the past tense.

Then she says it feels funny to be there "with someone" and how she wishes she'd met them sooner as if their relationship is only temporary and they don't both work in the same office on Monday morning.

Then she looks taken aback by Protag Lady confiding that she's glad to have skipped work and that meeting and spending time with coworker girl was worth it.

It's all "just" a bunch of vague implications that may just be imaginary adding up, but to me it reads very much like Coworker was depressed and seriously considering walking into the sea until she just so happened to run into Protag Lady who listens to her problems and unwittingly fills in the negative space in her life where she was spiraling from by caring about her and relating to her troubles.

I would at least agree that both protags are depressed, and that the company each provides for the other is basically a lighthouse. I still don't think she was about to kill herself though, sometimes you just need to get away and the beach is a nice place to collect yourself.

Also I don't think their relationship is temporary as the wording is "I wish we could have talked like this sooner", because yes they were coworkers but they never got to actually talk in a casual setting and have a real conversation due to both of them being so busy with work.

Agree. I don't see any hints that this was anything more than an escape from work. Plus that's not normally Yuni's writing style. She likes fun and messy relationships that have heart to them. I don't remember the last depressing thing she's done. Also, her afterwards normally tell you exactly what her thinking was or how her stories came to be. I think she was being honest about her ideas for this one. She said this was the beginning of a relationship based on the uploader's quote of her (first comment), so we know this wasn't a fleeting meetup too.

Yeah, I fully agree with your comments on Yuni and her style.

i do want to poke the scanlator about page 7. i'm pretty sure "this is the yellow line" is mistranslated, and it's referring to the "please stand behind the yellow line" they always say when a train is pulling in. it's super minor and doesn't effect the story at all, but i got the feeling the TLer just wasn't aware and figured i'd point it out. the translation is otherwise well done and really natural, so awesome job!

Ugh you're absolutely right. It's corrected now. Thank you!

I live in a city with a yellow line train so it was the first place my mind went, even though I did genuinely think to myself "huh I can't think of any trains I've ridden in Japan that were just named after a color instead of the destination or something". This is what I get for translating this chapter when I'm as tired from work as the ladies in this comic.

no problem at all! in fairness, many train lines (in tokyo at least) are color coded, but it's not something that comes up on the loudspeaker. the one i always rode was blue! thank you for translating this so lovingly and faithfully. i can tell you really care :D

And none of the train (except the maintenance trains that appear randomly) is yellow :P

You mean, the chuo/sobu line ?

Nice read! It's also a good reminder that what we are perceiving can be very different from one's reality. I'm glad they found each other, it can make a whole difference at a workplace when we have someone to rely on.

I am sorry but it’s really fun that this comment

“Was I the only one getting the vague impression that coworker was originally planning on walking into the sea before finding a new girlfriend”

Was posted right below this one

“it's really refreshing in a genre like yuri which tends to lean dramatic or idealized.”

Ha, I got burnt out during my first year at my first job and I kept thinking how much I would have loved a coworker that was on the same wavelength at that time. I'm no longer attached to that idea but this story made me kind of... nostalgic?
Especially after some absolutely hellish seven days I needed to cram two normal weeks' worth of work into. Impeccable timing really.

My corporate job isn’t even that hard but the continued 9-5 grind, 5 days a week where you have to put up a fake persona to please others really gets tiring…especially as an introvert. Totally wish I could ditch work with a cute coworker myself (╥﹏╥)

Hi, from what I read the manga, the characters don't seem to have any intention to suicide, and so I think you may relief and leave this whole theory behind.
