idk what the site's definition is but to me historical should be like, before widely available consumer electronics?

Even if it’s relatively recent history, the story is intentionally meant to capture the fashion, pop culture, technology, and ghost-related problems of a bygone era for nostalgic effect.

is the page order messed up in the latest chapter?

oops

Fixing. Please stand by.

edit: fixed now. Thank you. Somehow we lost an entire page at the beginning of the process and just thought the story was a little disjointed between pages... so we had to translate, clean, and typeset it and reupload.

Nothing about the series bills it as a romance/calls it yuri, and nothing in the raws for chapters 1-3 is textually romantic even if you could read it that way, so we defaulted to subtext and can upgrade it whenever that changes.

What’s she saying anyway? I still can’t decode it. I’m guessing it’s “it was really good”

I read it as "it came out really good".

Original:

ほひひふ へひへふふぁん
hohihihu hehihefu fan

My interpretation/guess, assuming it’s a sentence with all consonants replaced with h/f:

美味しくできてるじゃん
oishiku dekiteru jan

Translation: It came out pretty good

Final: Iw wawe ouw wewwy woow

Thank you. I kept seeing the last page a lot and now it's finally translated.

Can someone translate the Sal Jiang one to round up this collection?

Already started!

edit: it is done

This was Yuni-sensei's first original doujin yuri comic released at COMITIA, 10 years ago today!

As mentioned in the author's notes at the end, there was an earlier draft of this released at GLFes in 2013. There's no digital version I could find, but from the announcement on Pixiv (https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/35849399), it looks like it covered the same main story beats.

A couple of these comics were previously uploaded as individual images (here and here), before Amazaki-sensei compiled them into another Pixiv collection.

The pachinko song "Shizuku" is here (to save people the trouble of typing out the short link on the notes page): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cglq3qLW2ts

Historical yuri keeps failing to not break the reader's heart

OT: Is this uploaded in the wrong section? It's listed under Reiwa on the anthology site

This is labelled as reiwa in the series page, but is definitely the showa oneshot

Thanks, fixed! Dynasty uploader just puts them at the end of the chapter list by default, forgot to reorder.

i do want to poke the scanlator about page 7. i'm pretty sure "this is the yellow line" is mistranslated, and it's referring to the "please stand behind the yellow line" they always say when a train is pulling in. it's super minor and doesn't effect the story at all, but i got the feeling the TLer just wasn't aware and figured i'd point it out. the translation is otherwise well done and really natural, so awesome job!

Ugh you're absolutely right. It's corrected now. Thank you!

I live in a city with a yellow line train so it was the first place my mind went, even though I did genuinely think to myself "huh I can't think of any trains I've ridden in Japan that were just named after a color instead of the destination or something". This is what I get for translating this chapter when I'm as tired from work as the ladies in this comic.

Wasn't sure whether to tag this as yuri or subtext, but per the author's commentary, I went with yuri:

今回は「恋愛に発展する前の女性二人の関係性もまた良き百合なんだよなぁ〜〜〜」という思いを描きたくて描いてみました。
This time I wrote this thinking, "The relationship between two women before it blossoms into romance is still great yuri isn't itttttt?"

If this is a case where the yuri tag on Dynasty is a little stricter than how "yuri" is used in Japanese, feel free to downgrade to subtext.

Also, while the title is just a Japanese rendering of the word “sabotage” (サボタージュ sabotāju), the meaning of the Japanese word is closer to the original meaning of the word, and specifically refers to avoiding work responsibilities or skipping out on responsibilities like school and work, so I translated it as “Slacking Off” but preserved the original English subtitle (Sabotage written out in English). The Japanese word サボる (saboru) also comes from this and means “to skip [school/work/etc.]” or “ditch”, as it’s translated in this comic.

Please consider buying this comic if you have the means. It's only 300 yen (a.k.a. 2 USD, 1.7 Euro, etc.)! Available on Yuni-sensei's BOOTH store: https://yurikuzu.booth.pm/items/7400066

Quick heads-up the series is gonna be on break this month. Seems to be going at a “2 months on, 1 month off” cadence, so it should be back in October. SheepD-sensei had to put the most drama before a break month D:

Reminds me of another comment section recently where it was discussed that we need a "Complete Trash" tag, for when everyone is trash lol

Ah, you mean this one? With this one being released too, that suggestion might actually become reality with how often it’s happening, haha :D
https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/short_comic_collection_2023

Haha yeah, feels like a tag we need for these types of stories

I don’t think of myself as all that into these themes, but all my favorite authors are, so here we are. Maybe if I translate enough (there’s more where both of these came from!) someone will have to add the tag <3

This is tmfly (Tamifull)'s first work since the completion of So, Do You Wanna Go Out, Or? (How Do We Relationship?) earlier this year. See this Tweet from tmfly with links for where you can purchase a digital copy (only ¥880) and support her!

We need more amazaki suika one shots! MORE

This comic from today was her first new Twitter comic posted since her current series began last year. She said hopefully she’ll have another one out next week! I guess she is procrastinating on the 7 Day Girlfriend volume 2 work lol

That aside, I’ve still got half a dozen more Twitter/Pixiv comics she did in 2023 that I haven’t gotten around to translating yet, so there’s more to come!

Yeah the Showa era was absurdly long. A Showa chapter could just as easily be building up to World War II or the 1980s.

The series will be on break this month while Amazaki-sensei works on volume 2 (chapters 6-10). Chapter 11 will be August 27th. We should be getting at least one more volume of 5 chapters <3

Same here. I was telling JQ that doing this oneshot together was particularly exciting for me, because it was specifically reading JQ’s lovely notes over the last few years that made me appreciate fan translations so much, and in turn made me want to take up fan translation myself (for sheepD’s ongoing historical yuri series at first). Fast forward a year and now I get the honor of co-writing historical notes with JQ <3

Yeah it’s quite funny because it’s remarkably consistent and detailed about the specific decade if not exact year it takes place in, but the Russo-Japanese War reference is so concrete and so incompatible that it’s kinda hard to make sense of lol. I did consider the time skip angle, but it definitely stretches believability that Iku has been at the mill for 30 years by the time she encounters Mitsu at the restaurant, both because she doesn’t appear to have aged at all (at least not until the montage of her rising the ranks, which is after the Russo-Japanese War mention), and because most people only worked at Tomioka Mill for a couple years before going back home to a closer mill to teach others. Personally I find anachronisms/human error always a little funny and endearing! Or maybe it’s an easter egg sheepD-sensei put in to make us history nerds scratch our heads :)

There are a few more details that point to the 1870s that I didn’t think to squeeze into the first page, namely:

  • The declaration of mass recruitment of samurai family girls for Tomioka Mill so they could learn skills to take back home (and the rumors of foreigners drinking the factory girls' blood) began in 1872 and lasted only 10 or so years. The blood-drinking rumors specifically lasted only a short while before recruitment really took off. This puts the core setting of the story in the early to mid 1870s. [1]
  • The foreigners at the mill (French silk spinners like the woman we see in this comic / equipment experts) were only present at Tomioka until 1875. After that, teachers & management were all Japanese folks. [1]
  • The time period is also important as starting in the late 1880s until past the end of the Meiji era, labor disputes and far more oppressive working hours (up to 20 hours a day) clouded over the lives of silk workers [2], while in the 1870s working conditions were very reasonable (8-hour work days and Sundays off) [1] which aligns better with Ikuko's activities in the comic (going out on weekends and evenings)
  • Ikuko’s father was a samurai, which suggests he was at least an adult by the early 1860s, and doesn't look very old. Ikuko also she seems to have a clear awareness of the change in her family’s status, so it’s likely Ikuko was even born before the Meiji Restoration (1868), somewhere in the 1850s-60s, making her the right age for the large scale recruitment for silk mills in the early 1870s.
