Him discovering them at the end, a lot of the dialogue being about jealousy because one of the girls keeps looking at him, he feels weirdly central to the story for no good reason. Plus they knew he was outside, and it was so weirdly obvious to me that he'd discover them. there's a pretty deep insecurity pervading the way michiru interprets shino's actions. Definitely feels like something they'll have to work through, although given that this is a high school fling I doubt either of them are thinking about the long term.

It felt a little too much like he was the audience self-insert character, I think, probably because (as you say) he was weirdly central to the narrative despite us knowing literally nothing about him. I think a version of this story even with him could've worked but it wasn't executed very well. At least the art was good.

I always enjoy when horny yuri isn't afraid of including a strap. This was pretty amateurish tho.

Yeah I think it was definitely uncomfortable, and like you said I think it was intentional for him to find them. Which for one reason or another the end result is still that he saw them having sex, and he intruded on their intimacy.

It's weird because he really does feel like a self insert, him being the most important character in the dialogue and getting to see them have sex gave a weird vibe of fetishizing their sexual intimacy while centering the narrative around the all important male. That's at least the feeling I got and I don't like it.

Personally, I didn't feel it that way. I mean, the guy was just a pretext to lead to them getting off at school. We don't know if she was actually looking at him or, like she said, just spacing out.
But I share the fact that he not being there wouldn't change anything.

In another hands, I found it peculiar that Shino was so sure of herself about them not being found in the gym storage, like she already did something there before with someone else. And with Michiru's insecurities about Shino liking more dudes than her, I think Shino had already dated before, mostly or only men, and she fucked one of them in the gym storage before dating Michiru without being caught. And maybe, Michiru has never dated before, that's why she is so insecure.

Ironically I think if (for example) Shino really did prefer guys and was stringing Michiru along, that would remove the self-insert feeling because it would center the narrative around Shino and her desires. The character motivations in general are not very well established which is perhaps the cause of our odd feeling.

That said the art is good and the last page suggests to me the intent was Shino really does love Michiru so I think it was an execution issue and not an intent issue. Hopefully the author writes another yuri in the future because there is talent there.

Yeah, that ruined it for me, and not just because it was a guy who saw them. The artist had a third party intruding on a couple's intimacy for no reason (right after Shino professeed her love for Michiru to boot). To make it worse, their last dialogue was about being seen as if that was the point. It almost feel like they were putting on a show for him. Reminds me of that series about a guy who stalks a couple to facilitate yuri moments. It just feels voyeuristic and off-putting.

Huh. I had a very different take on things. It felt more like Shino's an exhibitionist and the guy was just a convenient prop to give her a sense of danger. I mean, these girls had sex in a classroom while they could see other students out the window. They also brought a strap-on to school and decided to use it in the gym storage room, when they knew the soccer team was practicing.
