Admittedly, I'm a bit of a nerd and I wouldn't expect most people to know about it, but I do think it's kind-of interesting, at least in part because it wasn't just created by a tiktoker on a lark and it was intended to be practical, even if that was never a realistic goal.

So far, she's crawled into Hiro's bed and gone to sleep hugging her, twice, and then there was the whole lap pillow. I was going to say Hiro should take the hint already, but she may not be the only one.

I also have two new theories, one of which is more plausible than the other.

First, the dreams Hiro keeps happening are actually distorted memories of her mother and father interacting, with Karin taking her mother's place, hence her father's younger look.

The second is less of a theory, but I'm wondering if Hiro might not be the only one in the family who's a bit queer, since I'm now hoping for her father X Yukio, the close friend who goes out of his way to come over and bring wagyu beef to a barbecue and who comes over so often he's no longer considered a guess.

Yeah, you managed to find the words for the dream thing where I kind of couldn't, it's looking pretty likely the dreams are to some extent baby memories resurfacing.

Also, yeah! My immediate "it'd be so funny" thought was that Hiro's dad is maybe a little closer to Yukio than Hiro is aware of. Though I don't find it all that likely to be true I do appreciate that someone else was apparently getting the same visions I was lmao.

Some things I found interesting:

• Karin looks so much like Hiro's mom that Yukio drops his beer. I checked and it turns out in the chapter 1, Hiro's dad dropped his cigarette when he first saw Karin.
• Others have mentioned Yukio not being a "guest". Maybe not a coincidence that both Hiro's mom, Karin, and Yukio are tall with dark hair?

I think this theory is good, I wouldn't be surprised if the dreams are a bit of magical realism, like memories from Hiro's dad or mom.

Thoughts on ch 3

• I think Yukio was shocked and was gonna comment on Karin looking like Hiro’s mom
• I also think that Hiro’s mom is related to Yukio (sister or another relative, which explains the intense reaction)
• I think Karin has troubles sleeping on her own, hence hugging Hiro when they were camping + her not waiting for Hiro’s approval before getting into bed (which I’m taking it as a sign of how eager she was)

Thoughts on ch 4

• Hoping the dad chills a bit and let’s Hiro work part time— 17 is def old enough to work a job, it’s better she gets used to working now rather than later
• I’m SO glad Hiro asked about the game Karin was talking about, it hurt seeing Karin looking so sad. Hiro really almost fumbled any chance of getting closer to Karin
• Karin and Hiro are suppper adorable

I’m sticking to the “Hiro’s dreams are just dreams stemming from her fear” theory since I don’t have any reason to believe that they have anything to do with her mom (a woman who she doesn’t even remember, given by how she didn’t realize how Karin looks like her mom)

her dad looking younger can easily be explained with the fact since the dream starts with her watching them on her phone, like she’s watching a romance show, and those shows have the FL and ML being the same age + the fact that several of the dreams are influenced by things said in reality or own inner desires (with the lap pillow one— and on that thought, it’s really making me worry that Hiro has a habit of sleep talking. I’m worried about how much she says given the dreams she gets)

Given how similar Hiro’s mom looks to Yukio, I’m thinking that the two are related (like siblings) which basically makes Motoaki and Yukio brothers (in laws but whatev) it explains why he’s not considered a guest and is more closer to family which would explain why he visits often

This series keeps getting more interesting! It goes up to chapter 25, so there are 21 more chapters to go. Let’s see how the story continues to unfold. ^_^

Hiro is visualizing his ideal self in his dreams, modeled on a younger version of his father. It’s an interesting way to show how the conscious mind can sometimes lag behind the unconscious when it comes to gender feelings.

Karin… just looks like that. When an artist draws a woman with yaoi features, well I can pick up on subtext. (See also: Ohana Holoholo, Ikkoku Nikki) To say nothing of the fact that she has a loud (unladylike?) sneeze that she’s embarrassed by. And she’s a gamer? I mean come on…

Here’s hoping the love triangle aspect of the story is really just to complicate Hiro’s feelings about Karin. His dad seems like a goofy oblivious guy but that still leaves a lot of room for dramatic misunderstandings. At first I thought Karin might be crushing on him too, but now I read it more as the feeling of relief when someone shows you some basic kindness after you’ve been mistreated or neglected for so long that you start to lose your self respect. (All too common tgirl experience unfortunately) We haven’t seen Karin’s home life yet, but she seems jealous of Hiro’s relationship with his dad.

Anyways, I’m sure none of this will end up being the case as the series goes on. But I’m still excited to lose a game of chess to a dog, as the saying goes.

What yaoi features does she have? From my perspective, she seems like a fairly traditional beauty.

While I don't think the trans angle is likely—though it's certainly an interesting interpretation and I can see how it could work—I have similar suspicions about her home-life and the reason she reacts the way she does. I think her introduction to the story is the main thing that gave me that impression, since I got the impression that the convenience store they met up with was pretty much in the middle of nowhere and it's a bit odd for a teenage girl to be so far out, without any sign of personal transportation, and also so lacking in plans that she can immediately beg a classmate to spend the night with her, without being particularly close or even knowing what that classmates plans are. That feels like an "anywhere but home" sort of situation.

I was a yaoi reader for years and don't know what you mean by "yaoi features" lol. She just has a longer face and smaller eyes than the usual beauties in manga.

Maybe it’s wishful thinking but I think Karin possibly doesn’t have a crush on dad, maybe her own dad is dead or abusive and she’s just jealous of their relationship and happy to have a loving father figure.

I can't believe it took Hiro this long to put two and two together about her feelings for Karin lol.

Of the theories floated here I think the concept of Yukio being a brother in law makes the most sense, and that Karin just happens to look like Hiro's mom. Honestly this could be a citrus-like situation where they're half sisters or something.
