It was really hard to narrow it down to only 5 works. I wanted to give some love to some Chinese manga like My Dear Lass and Please Bully Miss Villainess too but i couldn't make them fit :-(

Cirque Aracne is a gem. It's a shame it doesn't get enough recognition. I love your choices by the way.

Agg I forgot about Octave, good one!

I've gone with:

1. The Moon on a Rainy Night, my absolute favorite running series.
2. Sweet Blue Flowers, which I've read so many times that I felt deserved a spot in my all time favorites, even if the story itself doesn't stand out much.
3. Run Away With Me, Girl, simply wonderful.
4. Miss Sunflower, a lovely slice of life series.
5. A Love Yet To Bloom, because it heals my soul every time I read it.

Almost made the last spot: Cirque Arachne, Dark Forest, White Road, Silver Gymnasium and A Tropical Fish Yearns For Snow. The last one was rejected because I found explicitly yuri series more appropriate for my all time favorite and the rest didn't make the cut, because the had left me thinking that they should have been longer and/or the writing seemed inferior compared to A Love Yet To Bloom.
So I was left with a mostly wholesome slice-of-life list :)

For fringe cases like this, I'd say it's up to the voter. If it's "yuri" enough to be in your top 5, go for it.

I too had a mental meltdown contemplating my top 5 ("Do I even like yuri or are the lesbians in all the media I enjoy mere happenstance?") but after accepting that there's no total well-ordering, I just picked favourites for different kinds of yuri :

• Platonic ideal of yuri romance: Bloom into You (Main stream for a reason, it's basically the reference implementation of yuri at this point)
• Comfort yuri fluff: My Food Seems to Be Very Cute
• Comedy with a side dish of yuri: Maria✝Holic
• Yuri Action-adventure with solid plot: The Executioner And Her Way of Life (The one exception to my execration of the isekai genre; I can see this being a suitable first contact with yuri to your usual shounen fan)
• Unapologetic gay wish fulfilment: Iono the Fanatics

Extra shout-outs to one-shots I omitted in favour of having all series: I Don’t Need Promises and Schrödinger's Confession. And finally goated Scape-God, which I can't even tell why I love it so much.

Sadly I completely forgot about Sorry but I'm Not Into Yuri because otherwise I would probably have switched that with one of them (but at least this saved me from having to think). Probably not the only series like that either but what I don't remember can't hurt me. Honorable mention to Kiss and White Lily, which I also didn't remember in time but which wouldn't have made it in regardless yet which I like enough that I want to mention it anyway.
