He thought he'd be playing her, but in the end he played himself. Meanwhile she has absolutely no idea what she is even doing herself... :D

Comedy?

Absolutely.

He? The cross-dresser seems to be more female than not. I'd guess that 'Sakuma' is closest to the core identity, with Ema (dark hair girl) and Naruse (boy) as other personas.

Something about the end has me thinking we’ll see identity #4 next chapter

It's honestly difficult to tell at this time, so for now I'll go with the same assumption as the first chapter until we know one way or other.

There was no assignation in the first chapter though?

Assumption, not assignation.

I love the way that chapter 2 sorta reverses the dynamic between the two of them. The first chapter left me feeling like "wow who is this identity-changing shapeshifter and how did they run into Houjou-san so many times...

But in this chapter I honestly feel a little bit bad for them, because it seems like they just wanted to test what her type might have been, and instead got stuck with running around all day going on dates while trying to frantically change in between each. Houjou-san is a bit of an accidental demon who, in her quest to methodically and professionally hone her dating skills has essentially become a playgirl who toys with people without ever noticing.

Poor Sakuma/Ema/Naruse got turned down in three different ways from their perspective, even though Houjou-san ends the day thinking "wow what a great experience I had with these three charming people, but gosh I just still don't know what my type is!"

Where you see an assumption in the first chapter? MC meets Sakuma, Ema, Naruse, and Sakuma again.

Turned down how? Houjou had other commitments, which SEN absolutely knows, because SEN was the other commitments. 'Sakuma' was the only one who had time, and alcohol + Houjou's ethics closed anything there that night.

Each "persona" had an active ask to spend more time with Houjou, which I believe was meant to make her choose who she liked best under the assumption that she would cancel the other dates if she had accepted Naruse or Ema's invitations. Houjou turned the first two down, so they assumed Sakuma might be the one that she liked the most, and was the most forward after the dinner.

Sakuma clearly was not drunk, so when she embraced Houjou/went for a kiss she was hoping to potentially be taken back to a hotel by Houjou, but instead Houjou who (as has been previously established) is terrible at reading romantic cues, assumed that Sakuma had stumbled and had too much to drink and politely brushed them off to allow Sakuma to save face. In a business environment this makes perfect sense, when someone makes a mistake you politely give them an off ramp to maintain their reputation, but in the context of a romantic date, it reads as a rejection of that intimacy, which you can tell by the fact that Sakuma goes completely red in the face because she's embarrassed at her overture being rejected. But of course that only registers as being drunk in Houjou's mind.

Why would you assume there was one? I'm only speaking about what seemed to be the case based on what we as readers saw of this character.

It's interesting, because yeah we do just still not really know who Sakuma, Ema, Naruse is underneath the pretense. And while Ema is definitely a public facing persona given she has a job at a bar before Houjou ever even ran into Sakuma to start with she's very much a work persona more than anything else.

Sakuma would also be a public facing persona because unless she was scheming right from the start it's unlikely for her to have already been dressing up to catch Houjou. Additionally Sakuma is likely the "realest" one at least in terms of looks, because that's the only persona who doesn't require a wig though of course, given the end of the chapter, Sakuma's looks can be natural but her personality can be faked.

To that extent. Naruse does stick out, not just because he's the only male persona out of the three, but because we haven't seen him outside of his ploy to appear in front of Houjou and ask her on a date. At this point he is arguably the fakest out of the three, built purely for the purpose of potentially satisfying Houjou's type. But who knows maybe he is just as real as the other two, or maybe the other two are in fact just as fake.

Maybe underneath it all, every part we've seen here is masks, maybe in the end when we get a true version, none of the three will (to say it dramatically) survive.

Gotta love a chaotic and stupid ace/pan protagonist.

Loving the craziness of all of this. Looking forward to the inevitable dramatic reveal of SEN’s true personality feeling rejected and isolated by everyone (justifying their desire to change to be accepted) and Honjou’s countenance of being attracted to them just for being them. Gonna be a fun read.

If anyone knows how I can support the author so that this can continue to be published, please drop some info.

Damn, this manga is fantastic. Houjou is such a great main character, proactive enough to move the story forward, complex enough to be interesting, and ridiculous enough to be hilarious lol. As Cornonthekopp pointed out, it was notable how Sakuma/Ema/Naruse (SEN hereon) was sort of framed as an ambiguously evil mastermind manipulator at the end of chapter 1, but in this chapter they're the one being constantly jerked around by Houjou's obliviousness lmao. My personal hopes for the manga are that SEN keeps switching between personas even after the truth comes out, and also that we never learn whether they're afab or amab :p

It would be AMAZING if we never learned their assigned gender at birth. Precisely because I think it would piss a lot of people off, but clearly not Honjou-san XD

Both of these people are wack as hell. Ema/Sakuma/Naruse is the world's strongest Gender Presentation Doer and you love to see it, while Houjou has that social mechanics special interest autism at maximum power and is applying it fully. Both of them are absolute freaks of nature. This much extreme nacho flavor would kill a medieval peasant on the spot. They're perfect for each-other, really, and I look forward to seeing more of this.

I mean, I don't see why someone would read Ch 1 and figure that SEN was most likely a 'he'.
