Context for this story is in chapters 22, 33, 34

Oh, gosh. One of the nice things about this manga is that there's always something happening, but I've gotta admit, that also means a scene whose context is 10 and 22 chapter away feels really confusing.

Thanks for looking that up !

Yeah, I think every volume there's an update/development for relationships between all the characters - this is just one if those subplots

So angry she willed an entire foot into existence!

Seriously though, I actually dig the disconnected and understated vibe of this. Along with feeling called out by every bougie urbanite reference (yeah I have that toaster oven), it's part of the Kamiina Botan charm.

This latest chapter felt like it was just the college lesbian version of Sequel To The Amazing Halo Video

While reading that bit on the last page of the chapter, I wondered did the author really reference all those Hollywood movies, or did the translator just replace Japanese movies movies with English ones to make it more relatable to western readers.

I would be shocked if they weren't original

this series has a lot of references to western media, akane shows off her collection of english vinyl records in chap 8 for example

I feel like this has been diluted with side plot characters. I uhh, dunno what's going on anymore.

i just realized, a lot of their conversations are blunt, disconnected or offbeat by a note or two bcuz they are ever so slightly tipsy due to alcohol.
Excellent writing by the author.

I really enjoy the how they switch up the animation direction for ep3. Gives it a completely different feel

Watching ep 4 right now. looks like the art style went back to how it was in episode 1 and 2.

After 5 episodes I have to say anime version of Kamiina Botan is incredibly good, shockingly so even. Episode 5 is bit like Shaft-styled, in a really good way. So far it's been splendid. That's even despite deliberately potatofied style of episode 3, because voice actors do great job as well.

It's well worth a watch even if you don't like the manga.

I personally loved the art direction for episode 3, each episode has been uniquely good for their own reasons imo

Yeah and I can't wait until we get to Botan and Ibuki's "let's not be friends anymore" dating start. It looks like that'll definitely happen this season.

i feel like the season will end at the end of vol 4 (assuming it gets 12-13 episodes (im p sure thats a standard ep count i dont watch much anime)), but they'll have to cut a few chapters for it to work due to ep 10s plan to deviate from the manga entirely and focus on an anime original akane and yaeka story which im v excited for. and holy shit i would love it if this was the one to break the one season yuri curse please god let it be this one

I'm definitely looking forward to what the rest of the season brings, and a season 2 with this type of production would be nice

Caved and caught up to the manga now. There sure are a lot of references lol (various nerd stuff like movies, music, cars, etc.). Most importantly LOTS OF YEARNING. Love it. But I honestly do prefer the anime. Not just cause the anime visuals have been so good but I think the series flows better animated. All the more excited for next week's episode and hopefully the debut of best girl.

Seriously. This might be my favorite adaptation now. It's been amazing. Got me to read through the series; that's also amazing and very literary in a way I haven't seen much (which apparently causes some confusion it seems). Can't wait for the next chapter and episode.

I enjoyed the first two episodes of the anime and didn't mind the change in artstyle, but I couldn't even finish episode 3. The constant blackouts were incredibly annoying to me, I don't understand how no one seems to have found it unpleasant. I might take up the manga instead, or just skip ep3 idk

Each episode is also different, so it's not permanent. Is one episode's unique art style enough to consider dropping an otherwise liked series? Guess so.

If I remember correctly, I think there was discussion on the episode forums on MAL that the directors for each episode kept changing, ( in the sense it wasn't one person directing all episodes their were many people involved in the direction) which is why the art style would shift from time to time. Episode 3 had a pretty major change in the art style, and in Episode 4 it was more noticeable in certain scenes and emotional moments, where a different style was used. The colors would suddenly become much bolder before going back to the usual warmer tones.
