I dunno, I kinda like that it was so sudden? She made e the decision very suddenly but it's not like it hasn't been building toward that. But also consider that his chapter is primarily from the husband and friends' perspectives, of course it's going to seem very sudden to them, especially the one friend who's freaking out because he had absolutely no idea about all of the stuff that we the readers know and what the husband has picked up on. I get why people might not like it but I think it conveys what this would be like for everyone fairly well. They could still revisit her decision in the final chapter of course but I don't really think it's needed.

While I generally am not of the opinion that things have to be strictly black and white; or that gray or conflicting emotions not allowed.
It just feels inconsistent here.
While Hikaru has the justified reaction of getting angry and lashing out at Hana for throwing her wedding ring, we get a whole chapter or more worth of exposition of her struggling with her guilt of hitting someone, realizing she does love and cherish Harutaka and accepting that Hana is not for her.

But she suddenly throws everything out when Hana does the most questionable backhanded apology(?). Suddenly, her realizing that Hana is not a good influence is Thanos snapped.
Her feelings for Haru are trivialized in a heartbeat. Suddenly she's back to her 1000% smitten self as if her doubts regarding Hana never happened. And she only feels dramatic guilt for hitting Hana, but her guilt for basically completing estranging her friends and family only lasts for as long as she's crossing a street.

[Maybe her departure took place over a period, but the chapter makes it feel like, she met Hana, saw her smile and left with her ASAP while writing a letter]

I'm real curious to see how this last chapter goes.

I don't think I'm going to be happy about anything that happens in it, but I'm still curious.

Weird thought, and if someone already pitched this, I apologize, but:

I wonder if you could use this manga as kind of a canary for getting a sense of certain flaws in someone's character or personality. Sorta like recommending Mouthwashing to someone, and after they finish it, they come back with "That Jimmy guy might've slipped up here and there, but at least he fixed things in the end."

But here, see if they think this was a really beautiful love story and they're so glad Hikaru realized how wrong she was to be upset.

this isn't uncommon on this site, but it really struck me reading through the comments on this manga how many of the discussion points that come up are about tropes and trends, and not about the content of the manga itself. stuff like "the pressures of comphet and small town culture clearly forced her to marry him," "Hikaru will be the only one to understand Hana and love her for the real her," not to say that I think there's no validity to these things as speculation, but we really haven't seen them on the page at all?

I don’t think talking about tropes is the same as not talking about the story, manga largely use tropes-cliches and depending of the author they take different forms. Tropes and stories feed each other.
Not to say what happened in this chapter is exactly how that tropes goes.

Is not a bad trope and this is not a bad manga, I actually really like that they eloped without any confrontation (I am happy again) my main problem is the “back pedaling” on Hana as a character, is like the author decided to forget the intentional nature of not going to her date with Hikaru + leaving her on read. All of her other actions can pass the “I didn’t know I was hurting you” that one doesn’t (for me). And that scene made me expect something different from her, I basically thought we were going in the direction of “I want to prove your love for me because everyone has left me and I feel alone” and not the other trope, I wanted her to be manipulative.
I feel disappointed with her character because I expected something different. It's a me problem. But I do think that the author tried to make the date scene as if never happened.

I think this is just unfortunate. It’s a slow burn that likely got cancelled, leaving it feeling like 80% of the story is missing. Can’t really talk shit, I just sympathize with the mangaka.

Huh. This happened a bit too fast, but I guess you could say she chose “the moon” over “six pence”?
Whatever, I’ll roll with it. See what happens next. I still love the psychological aspect of this manga. These types of descriptions are rather intriguing.

I thought so too, I was a bit confused this chapter but just went along with it...

After having slept a night on this chapter: Unless the final chapter reveals that Hana is an alien trying out new mind-control pheromones on earthlings or smth. this is just a punch in the gut to the reader.

Usually I'd like to do failure cause analysis on bad manga endinds, but here there's really not more to it than the entire idea being impossible to begin with. Imagine the Lord of the Rings, the begininning with Gandalf & Bilbo the same, but after that it directly skips the entire fellowship stuff and directly to the volcano scene. This is the sort of narrative leap here.

I know I am contradicting my previous posts here regarding "wait and see", but sometimes the other party simply has receptive aphasia.

Well, while I'd wait to see how the end turns out and the chapter did give me a bit whiplash, I can't say I don't enjoy the development. It feels sufficiently drastic and sudden, just dropping everything for this one opportunity. Perhaps it would have been nice to linger on the other characters more (although thinking back to Gone Girl, I wasn't the biggest fan of the first half, which is basically what I say I wanted so...) but with how little interest I have in them, I might have been unhappy either way.

I mean as much of an insane circus Liberty is I think this has the dubious honor of sucking more...

I highly doubt the last chapter can salvage this mess, I think too much damage has been done.

I think I agree with you, and you've put your finger on why-- Liberty is indeed quite often an "insane circus," with all the off-kilter entertainment value that phrase suggests.

The closest this one comes to that kind f*ckery is the "intentionally unread Dear John letter" trope, where any reader still with the series desperately wants to know "what in the world is that woman thinking?," and the story replies, "Not gonna tell ya--not this chapter, anyway."

Funny, I had this weird intuition. Normally, I read a manga chapter, then probably go to the comments. This time I thought, "For this manga, I think maybe I want to go to the comments first and see whether I'll hate the latest developments". And lo and behold, I hate them. Might bother to read the chapter, might not, but at least I'm forewarned--thank you, fellow commenters!

This was pretty fun to read week after week, especially with the comment section. Fun, because of how bad it was but it was entertaining to read the comments every time. But without that, I wouldn't recommend it. Pass your way, and go enjoy your life :D

Not even sure there's much use in some deep dive into the motivations here, it's just so unbelievably sudden.

Only thing I got is that maybe this was just the moment she was waiting for in life?
