Hmmm I have a feeling that if I understood Korean culture at all, I would also be really really really happy about a cute girl calling me unnie

Just imagine you went to Japan and a cute girl called you Onee-san (I would probably blush if it came from a Japanese girl)

Man, Solar's got it rough. Her mom is pressuring her to get married, a toxic ex is stalking her, and then an eating disorder from her idol days on top of that...

I feel like the closest in English-speaking countries would be a cute girl calling you "Mommy"

Wow, funny how that’s the closest equivalent we have in English :D. Personally, I’d say it’s like a cute girl calling you cute.

Just "cute" doesn't have the younger-to-older psedo-familial connotations.

Just "cute" doesn't have the younger-to-older pseudo-familial connotations.

True, but I think "Mommy" goes overboard since it's not something you'd call a woman who's not your mother unless it was explicitly flirty or weird. Unnie, Oppa, and Senpai can be completely normal and ambiguous and are used much more frequently for everyday interactions.

Anyway this was cute.

just reading the first chapter and damn Solar seems to be inspired a lot by TWICE lol. Main vocalist who still diligently studied dancing/rapping and is considered an ace; always trying new things and legit can't stay still is just Jihyo in a different font. Unable to say tsu is literally a thing for Nayeon, but she can sing it just fine.

on chapter two now: being a fan of J-Pop, and fan of Two Off Rock, which is 100% a parody of One Ok Rock, is literally just Jihyo.

or maybe I'm being way too delusional lol

anw, the art is nice, wonder how this will go next?

Yeah there's not really an English equivalent (although funnily we do have a Bulgarian equivalent used in exactly the same way), but honestly "mommy" is a pretty good attempt. The issue is less any particular word than the lack of seniority involved in English, and a lack of a formal/informal speech divide. "Unnie" has a purely age connotation, and not a top/bottom connotation, whereas "mommy" has more to do with dom/sub vibes and while it can involve age it really isn't required.

This chapter just made me go back and watch a bunch of clips of my bias being cute/hot, so that was fun.

Yeah. We used to have something like formal and informal speech and seniority-based language habits, but not much anymore. Same thing with using people's last names more regularly, etc. Most of that got left in the past, but it's not much different from what we used to do in English.

Really cute story. I love the notes at the end too. Don't forget Somi as another successful Produce 101 alum!

Haneul looks so scared when Yujin shows up. And following the credits page explanation it also looks like she's telling Yujin to let go of her in korean. Which Natsuki does not speak...

Like one on hand yeah, Natsuki should have stepped in here and actively stopped Yujin from taking Haneul away. On the other, Haneul doesn't actually ask her for help and all the words that would make it obvious she's being taken against her will are in Korean...

this really is the kind of situation where Natsuki doesn't do anything because she doesn't know if she should but will absolutely regret later.

I mean, that face and the fact that she was yelling at the woman should probably have made it clear that she was not in a good situation. Tone and expression tend to surpass the language barrier.

She is still in shock learning that she was her beloved idol all along. I think that part of the reason why she is paralyzed.

sure but I am trying to figure out why the story is the way it is. And I figure that because Natsuki does not get hard confirmation on what she's supposed to do. She freezes in this high stress situation and will regret doing so later.

She's getting what will in retrospect be the most obvious cry for help she could have gotten. but in the moment she doesn't know what to do.

I'm beginning to get a hiiiiiiiiint of why Haneul might have left Korea...
