In fact my impression a few years ago was that there were more songs by K-Pop artists with fully Japanese lyrics than fully English lyrics. With that in mind, I can't relate to the feeling that the concept of this work is the fantasy of an American.

It's also the case that there are plenty of scandals of idols in both Korea and Japan being found to have slept with fans (though usually they keep the gay ones out of the press and just focus on the straight ones), so this is also entirely possible. Especially for a retired Korean idol in Japan, very few people are gonna recognize her so she's much safer to go and party.

The setup feels variously very contrived, but I guess this is just how you gotta play the game with modern audiences. You can't have her go on a few dates before she runs into the idol; the idol can't hang around with her a bit but must immediately turn from normal into drunk-take-me-home mode, etc. Gotta keep that attention or it'll be axed by chapter 3.

Oh well, let's see what it'll do afterwards.

The entire "You just haven't found the right person yet" was a veryyy asexual-coded scene, for me (aroace myself, been told this countless times), so it was really unexpected in a pleasant way.
Ofc this is a Yuri manga, so the MC is probably not gonna end up being any type of ace, but I quite enjoyed the friend with the same reaction as her to dating lol

Yeah I also thought "Hmmm suspiciously aroace-coded?" If it does turn out to be explicit about any aroace stuff, I'll be super happy, but it's also just cool to think about the full spectrum of how people experience romance (or not).

"I don't do normal dating because I only have eyes for my oshi" is such a difficult thing to explain to people... And people will definitely label you as an emotionally-stunted weirdo.

I mean, to be fully honest, I was noticing myself judging the main character a bit for being so stuck on an idol. But I personally am super obsessed with my (fictional) oshi character, so I really don't have a leg to stand on.

I was waiting for a manga with MC Solaar as a cute Korean girl.

It was already feeling so contrived, but when men were trying to ask them out not even letting her sit first it reached new levels, not even the fanfics I've written get like this. At least the speedrun setup is done now, let's see how it develops.

This manga is so incredibly fun to me so far because the entire time I was reading I was getting whiplash from comparing Solar in this story and Solar from Mamamoo. The moomoo in me was grinning the entire chapter lol.
