They've barely even interacted at all before she drops the "if you still like me later" line and then it just shows us them meeting after a long time. There's no real build-up to their relationship, years passed and nothing changed. It's just very superficial to me, I guess.

I don't think they have for some time, it seemed more like they just met for the first time in years and are willing to try dating now, the last page is their first date.

It read to me like the last page was them only starting to date, since the initial love at first sight feelings hadn't faded after years. Now that they met again they can actually get to know each other and become a couple for real, it sped through various points at the end but I wouldn't call it superficial since it felt like a starting point for now they can actually start to get to know each other romantically. That's my take away anyhow.

Where did the girl recognize MC as "had a crush on mom"? I took it as simply falling in love (lust, infatuation, crush) with a woman she saw on the train. A woman who just happened to have a connection to her mom. (Which I'm not sure the girl ever learned.)

Yeah, there's no real character development for the teen. You do kinda get a little for the older woman, but not much.

We could have used a 3rd chapter to showcase them actually dating, and the girl that left for college could have told our older character what that experience was like, filling in the details of her life when she was gone while growing closer. It would have smoothed things out better and given us greater depth to both characters, while also showing their relationship now as a couple.
