Yeah Sal Jiang's works are women focused, and more specifically lesbian centric. So in theory I don't think you have anything to worry about.

As a bit of a side note, I think one of the only times I've seen men also referred to as witches is Witch Hat Atelier

These witches would definitely benefit more from some open communication lol. But I guess open communication and secret societies don't mesh well.

Assuming that this is a witch festival in salem massachusetts maybe the subtext of the mission is to also show to sadako that witches have been persecuted and she needs to be quiet

Prince is obviously set up to be gender ambiguous so far, and while I have a feeling they're going to be female in the end, it's worth noting that "witch" is actually a gender neutral word and (at minimum) a fourth of accused witches in history (both accused and executed) were male.

So these new witches need to be rounded up because they have made themselves too visible to humans as influencers or is something else going on with the humans they gathered? It's notable that they immediately separated the MCs and focused in on Hanako's ties to the situation.

Sadako immediately assuming Yoshi must be a child based on how he was described made me laugh.

All witches are girls. Obviously.

It's a throwaway line, but during her debut livestream, Sadako says "I'm a witch, so I'm a woman" when a commenter asks her gender. It's possible that there are male witches, but it doesn't seem to be the "default".

Interesting, I'm not sure if the prince character is a witch or not anymore (I know she was part of the image but still...). The fact that she lacks the witch teeth and was surprised when Sadako dropped from the sky is very strange.

yeah, the mission from last chapter did say four runaway girls but on top of the fact Tae-wol is continuously referred to as male, and that Tae-wol doesn't seem to have the fangs...

But then of course if Tae-wol is either not a witch or not a woman. Why include Tae-wol into the group of four runaways girls specifcally?

The easy answer could of course be Tae-wol is either some flavor of butch, and simply a human who is involved in witch business like Hanako is right now.

Marina never referred to Moon as a "him", but just as "aitsu", "soitsu" which are non-gendered addresses. Whether Moon is actually a boy is up in the air.

Also, considering previous chapter's hint, all the names start with M: Marina, Moon, Margaret, Mone.

If Moon weren't intended as a boy what would be the point of Sadako's final comment of the chapter? And earlier in the chapter when the friend responds to the idea that woman can't be together, she says "I'm a woman too!" If Moon were a woman, who is clearly courting our MC, wouldn't the friend instead reply "you were already flirting with a woman (Moon)"? The dialogue seems to suggest one direction to me, although there's maybe some wiggle room. I guess we'll see though.

Otherwise, loved this chapter again.

Anyway, I'm 99.9% sure "Moon" is a woman, because the mother witch in chapter 6 said they had four 家出娘 which means four runaway GIRLS (and I translated it clearly), which she drew magically, and the top right one is obviously Moon.

This discussion is making me think that maybe neither Sadako nor hanako know what butches are lmao. It wouldn't surprise me either, Sadako hasn't been outside for like at least 200 years, and Hanako... maybe she's just never looked into it while going through the torment nexus of social relationships.

I’m more interested in Moon’s friend, Marina. Unless Marina’s lying (which she could be, but I don’t know why), wouldn’t she know these things? Hanako and Sadako could be mistaken for sure though. Those two are all over the place. I didn’t remember the the list from chapter 6, so I’m now leaning into the “Hanako and Sadako must be mistaken” camp.

Pretty sure she's just going along with the flow. She's used to Moon being mistaken for a guy.

Honestly this is moving too fast for my liking. Sadako and Hanako had hardly time to establish any real relationship, having mostly interacted indirectly before Sabbath interfered, and now there's supposed to be romantic tension with characters they quite literally met hours if not minutes ago?

They just met at a party, and the witches are flirting with them as you would. It doesn't take much to crush for a pretty face. The story isn't really presenting this stuff as though they're all in love and only one of them is going for the flirting anyway. The tension is in the fact that we know these witches are bad news (we're here to catch them), and it seems as if they've brought our MCs home for a reason, likely manipulatively. Now they even have their fourth member on the way. There's also the tension of the MCs' forced relationship and how this situation reveals more of their differences and character issues.
