So far. Well, It makes something clear for me. Without NanoFate, I kind of don't care. We'll see when Fate shows up. But honestly from what I've seen of this things marketing, I won't hold my breath.

Why wouldn't Fate show up?

This really doesn't give me Nanoha vibes. Maybe it's just been too long; must of the newer ones don't really work for me ...

They're saying they will wait and see if the series becomes more enjoyable when Fate shows up, not if Fate shows up. The franchise has been all over the place over the years with the writing and retcons, so it's honestly up in the air quality-wise; and a large part of how this series will be received depends on how they handle NanoFate (which is by far where most of the interest in the franchise lies)

That feels like an alternate universe from the main series. At least there's Nanoha and hopefully, Fate won't be long to join, but yeah, that first chapter feels kinda out of place, somehow. Very little exposition as to what's going on and why a 13yo Nanoha is actually working for some military force.

Guess I'll give it a couple more chapters to see how it goes.

^Yeah- im guessing its meant to be a few year after A's tho..? While its a time period we dont know a lot about, i'd of rather had a proper follow on to Strikers- at least then you could develop NanoFate and Vivio more as a family etc-
whereas with this we know they are not gona hook up since they are not together in Strikers..

While I love the main 3 series, i havnt cared about the spin off stuff, but I will at least check this out.. Given the wierd spin offs tho, they made me think the franchise holders dont have a clue what made the first 3 popular.

As a degenerate who actually liked Force, I am down for any Nanoha content, but I wonder what even is the point of telling an entirely original story using old character? Ah, who am I kidding, it's just brand recognition...

The original series came out 20 years ago. That's enough time for a writer to develop entirely new interests...

That feels like an alternate universe from the main series.

Feels very much like an alternate timeline to me.

That's because it is an alternate continuity from the main series. This manga follows the movie continuity and takes place a few years after Detonation.

I feel like a rube, I never once considered that Nanoha might be super enthusiastic about airshows and aircraft in general. That's incredibly adorable, tbh.

This is an interesting first chapter, it's different than the usual Nanoha, but so far it doesn't seem like a bad new direction. The art is also nice.
That said, I hope Fate joins Nanoha soon in the next chapter, they both together have been part of the initial marketing, so hopefully they start flirting soon.
And yeah, Exceeds follows the "new" continuity of the movies, so this is a new timeline for NanoFate to marry and adopt Vivio all over again.

This feels like a crack doujin. RAGING HEART, seriously? :D Why is Hayate's age undisclosed? How can they change her age? I am not sure I can treat this series as part of the franchise.

gonna elaborate a bit on this. i enjoyed strikers but dislike everything afterward because it throws away the A's cast (including hayate who's my fav), so although i do like nanofate and want to see them (and im sure we will), i have no deep attachment to vivio.

bigger question is who's "rein" here? is it a movie canon thing? she doesnt look like the tiny fairy reinforce, closer to the original (that died) actually

I honestly don't remember there being that many Nanofate moments in Reflection/Detonation, so I’m not holding my breath for this manga to deliver the same level of content we got in the original series :/

^Yeah the movies focused on it less than the series.. i dunno if it was just due to less screen time and wanting to focus on the story or they thought it better to underplay the yuri.. It was the wrong call imo- a lot more woulda been more interested in the movie timeline with MORE NanoFate i think- and I dont just say that as a fan of them.

There's no official English release, blame the unofficial group for using that name.

And for now, seems like they are turning Vivio's age-change magic into a more commonplace one.

I wonder if this one is going to cover Nanoha's near fatal injury (I think it was only shown as a brief flashback somewhere? I think the event occurred after A's and before Strikers?). If that is the case then Fate may not show up till later.

FYI there's a second translation on Mangadex. That one uses "Raising Heart". I haven't looked closely for other differences.

For any keen-eyed readers: the original Japanese used both 'Zed' and 'Zeo', that's not a translator error.

Nanoha has been working off and on for the Bureau since she was 9, in the main series. 'Contractor' through A's I guess, but StrikerS had that backstory of her working too hard by Vita's side and getting crippled by a Gadget Drone... at age 12. How this was to be balanced with her also going to school in Japan was never expanded on, because let's face it, the franchise tends to be very bad at details like that.

So in itself, I'm not sure there's anything in this chapter that makes it obvious we're in the Reflection timeline. What bugged me was all this "United Nations" stuff. But I think the TSAB personnel are co-operating with the UN of this particular planet, and thus labeled with its authority. Like some years before making RF6, she'd made this "Exceeds" group locally. But like, was the Bureau even mentioned in this chapter?

People believe that Nanoha's incident got changed by what happened at the end of Detonation, which quickly got swept under the rug anyway. But who knows, this is an independent continuity, and they can diverge (or not) from the original continuity as much as they want.
At least the Japanese have been pointing out that in this timeline Fate didn't fail her S rank exam twice, as she did in the original, where she was too worried about Nanoha being in the hospital to perform properly.

All I can really focus on is that these robots are shown to be alive and sapient and Nanoha opens the manga by just slaughtering a bunch of them, (Granted, ones that had gone rogue but still) She even had the evil eye glint!

I know people like to joke about Nanoha being an absolute monster but as this is my first time reading a Nanoha work, it's kind of strange to actually see it happen.

Why is Hayate's age undisclosed?

Because nobody with that knowledge has made it out alive.

Why is Hayate's age undisclosed?

I'm guessing the info panels are from a floating local perspective. Hayate hasn't disclosed her age and is using magic to make her and Rein look older/bigger.
