It's been repeated here several times that IT'S A STANDALONE VOLUME that was published as is.

So no, there was no ax, the author told the story they wanted to, in the constraints of one volume. That's all.

Hmmm . . . When some cheating jerky guy says "Really, it won't happen any more! I've changed, babe!" we tend not to buy it. I stopped reading this a couple of chapters in, thought I'd wait for the end and check the comments for how it went and . . . I have a feeling I will not buy this ending if I read it, so I'm gonna skip it.

You know, this is an irrelevant question, but did Rei have any other friends other than Ami and her friends? I’d assume she left the group if she was ignoring Ami for 3 months, so she was just completely isolated? I don’t completely remember the whole story though, so I’m sure she must’ve at least talked to some other people.

Thinking about it, Ami here reminds me a bit of Saori in My Daughter's Girlfriend, actually...

I think if we saw some of those 3 months where Ami was being ignored and getting the cold shoulder from Rei it would make this a bit more satisfying. Since we're just told it happened, we don't get the uh... "Satisfaction" of seeing that kind of "justice"(?) happen to her. But we're just told that it happened due to time (space?) limit and it can feel unsatisfying in that regard.

But I think it's told its story well. Ami has few moments when she starts realizing things and she has real issues expressing herself which outside of her "shitty" behavior is the other issue that leads to that breakup moment at the amusement park. Again, if we saw more of those 3 months it would be way better.

I hate to call the story "rushed" since it seems to have been planned as a single-volume story from the start, but an extra chapter or two for the 3-month and 10-year timeskips would have gone a long way. Probably not enough to justify an entire second volume though, which is why I figure the author had to end it the way it did.

That was possibly the most rushed ending I’ve ever seen, very much not satisfying.

It seems she did drop out. Rei says she can't solve Ami's current family situation but urges Ami to wait for her. The idea seems to be that they remained together and in contact--possibly long distance for a bit--until eventually they could be make their own decisions as independent adults. That alone could be a series but would probably extend beyond what this series wanted to focus on.

Would love to see a mini series on what happened during those 10 years or at least a chapter

Because cheaters deserve to be hated? Ami was a POS to Rei and constantly hurt her— she wasn’t even a good girlfriend AND was cheating on Rei with multiple chicks. Rei didn’t dump her cuz she lacks spine.

You’re telling me that if:

1. You saw your SO kiss another person
2. Your SO continues to treat you like a friend
3. Your SO never does anything to show that they like you, nor do they tell you they like you (romantically)
4. Your SO only tells you they like you cuz of the power they have over your emotions
5. Doesn’t spend time with you outside of school unless it’s with friends and invites people when it was supposed to be just you
6. Doesn’t take your anger or frustrations seriously
7. Your SO likes how you stay with them despite how poorly you’re treated because you can’t stop loving them

You would continue dating them and loving them unconditionally? Even when there’s a chance they’ll never stop cheating and fooling around?

Genuinely, how is it “heartless” to break up with someone who doesn’t treat you right, loves seeing you suffer because it’s their fault you’re suffering?

I also really have to reiterate that Rei quite literally did dump her. They only got back together once Rei realized that Ami was very deliberately taking strides to fix literally every point you outlined. And Ami was very clearly not doing it just for show. She couldn't even get the words out. Try reading the comic before analyzing the actions of the characters instead of seeing the "cheating" tag and blacking out from rage. Or maybe just block the tag.

Like take this guy. At least he has the decency to admit that he didn't read it and his analysis is completely useless.
Anyway the main difference here is that girls are better than boys.

Also also, it won't hurt you to read something where people do bad things. People fuck up all the time, and people fall in love for stupid reasons. Why would you not put that into art? I promise they're not going to jump out of the page and start cheating on you. It's okay.

It's nice to see that they're such a cute couple as adults. The story definitely feels a bit bare bones to me? Like this was a pretty juicy dynamic but the plot rushed through every plot point so there was not enough time to really dig into it.

It's not unreasonable for someone to view cheating, and especially serial cheating, as immediate grounds to end a relationship. Relationships are built on trust, and once that trust is broken it can be difficult or impossible to repair.

But if someone finds cheating in entertainment media so triggering that they can't focus on anything else the story has to say, they should probably move onto something else instead of trying to stick with whatever story has ventured into that topic.

This story is quite good, but I still feel like I need more chapters.

I hate to call any story “rushed” because I usually have faith in authors’ abilities to tell the story they feel the most comfortable with…but unfortunately to me, this story is indeed rushed as their relationships’ solution is never set in stone.

Cute, but confusing at the end, is all I’m saying.

Some stories drag on for hundreds of chapters before dropping the bomb and for some reason this one did it so fast I can’t believe it.

Still liking it though. Unlike any yuri I’ve ever seen.

This is really fucking good. The storytelling is really tight and efficient and I love how it shifts your perspective on things over time by giving you different amounts of information. Really admirable to finish this in one volume without wasted space. It was interesting and unusual and painful while still being emotionally realistic, and the resolution made sense in the context of the information we were given. It felt like a oneshot with a one volume page count, and it required all that time to convey its ideas. Incredibly difficult to do, a very impressive piece of fiction.
