I agree. Knowing this is the last volume and that the ending is a bit rushed (not bad just rushed), I'm a bit sad a better editor wasn't able to do a better job guiding the mangaka through the last chapters.

I agree. Knowing this is the last volume and that the ending is a bit rushed (not bad just rushed), I'm a bit sad a better editor wasn't able to do a better job guiding the mangaka through the last chapters.

She's the one character holding all the cards right now so knowing her personal consequences clearer would make what she does next mean more. If anything they used very few pages on her yet all of her potential choices of what she does next have some merit. She's experienced false familial love, destitution, accepting salvation, and now is reminded of her lack of agency she has so far accepted but possibly could buck here at the end. Her master is facing those various fates too.

Everything that could go wrong going wrong at the same time... But on the positive side, now that the lie is finally out they can finally have a real relationship. Once the pieces have been put back together, at least.

The fact they both knew means their relationship was more on the level than they both realized, which sneakily solves the major relationship problem. All that's left is courage and reconnection. 3 chapters for that seems doable. I'm sure they'll come back together before it's over.

It's somehow disappointing to me that the most obvious plot twist happened, but I guess there is a small twist to the twist still, since she seems to be somehow regretful that the real Kaoru never actually pat her head, implying that the ruse was too good :P

The ball is now in Hana's court, to tell Lily that she didn't act out of compassion only. But beyond a heart to heart, there is still the issue of (financial) independence. They're both young and have no leverage over Lily's parents that we know of (and no powerful allies either), so they have to convince them to call off the arranged marriage out of kindness/love, scramble to find some kind of leverage, or elope. The parents are very strict with Suzu as well, so a change of heart seems unlikely, leverage dropping in their lap could feel a bit too magical, and escaping seems like an even longer shot. It's a lot of ground to cover with little more than half a volume left.

Is it really a plot twist if Lily having absolutely no clue was extremely unlikely? I just see this as the story reaching its final stage and revealing all the cards in play. But I do like that Hana's cover was immediately blown by the head pats. I think it's hinted that it seemed natural to her because her brother used to pat her head. This also gives a bittersweet tone to Lily's adorable reactions when Hana touched and stroked her hair.

I'm glad it took this route, she is blind, not stupid. I wanted to see the sisters relationship explored, either concluding in a healing process or complete breakup, but I feel it won't happen.

The reveal caught me off guard, but reading back, it seems that any time Hana mentioned getting near the manor, like to get help, Lily immediate dissuaded her but came up with other reasons. She really did know all along...

Rereading from the beginning it seems clear now she knew from basically the start. The early questions about the sister moving in as well to feel out how the girl was trying to play this out. "I can't wait to meet her" perhaps trying to tell her she'd be welcome just as she was. Getting the "moved overseas" answer made her know this was a longterm deception. "That's a shame." Asking introductory questions like she was getting to know a new person vs the brother she likely had already talked to about those things.

I even wonder if she somehow sensed the suicide attempt or can see shape outlines in direct light and spotted the shears. That "it's lonely when you won't speak to me" seems desperate. As if she knew she was trying to stop a suicide attempt. In any case rereading it is an entirely different experience now.
