... well the way the story is laid out, they did not kiss - getting reprimended for earrings happened after the "incident" (or at least that's what "I saw it" implies), so since she didn't overlook the earrings, then the kiss didn't happen :P
No, the kiss and the bargaining takes place after she gets reprimanded. Saying "I saw it" only implies that the narrator is speaking at a later time. Most fiction is written in the past tense. She gets her earrings back after school because the public morals officer had confiscated them until then. There is no flashback, the story is linear.
