Just binged this, damm, why tf do I always read/watch stuff when it's 1 or 1 chapter away from the climax like bruh

Just marathoned this whole thing… if I had read it chapter by chapter I’d probably be teetering on frustration at the glacial pace of development between Kurokawa and Fujishiro, but being able to read it all in one go, it’s left me with the impression that the series isn’t just about them but also relationship dynamics.

I like how this series explores the relationship dynamics between each of the characters. It’s almost like the relationship dynamic is it’s own character. Since it’s yuri it’s usually about whether character A gets with character B and the obstacles they have to overcome (between them). But I like how we get to see how one person getting close to another affects the relationship dynamic with the people that get “left behind”.

The series does a good job of portraying each character’s motivation on its own (even though they’re all sort of directly/indirectly connected to Fujishiro, with the exception of maybe Iroha)

it’s also amazing at how all the characters have grown since. looking forward to some hopeful development from Miki and not just a foil to Kurokawa/Fujishiro

Holy emotion dump batman! Glad Kurokawa finally let all of the things that were weighing her down out. They're on equal footing now for the first time and she might actually be able to consider how she really feels about Fujishiro without all the hero worship baggage. It's all ending next chapter though, I hope it won't be too rushed :X

Next chapter is gonna be them both happily together where they laugh with each other about all the drama that led to them getting together.

The last couple of chapters were not executed very well, and the lack of any levity didn't help. But I think this chapter was very sweet and genuine! As someone reading since 2018, this last-minute recovery is a big relief.

Well I definitely fully disagree here, at the very least about this last chapter. Plus cringe is such an over used word lately, and I think it's used especially poorly in this instance where the character is fully expressing everything that's been weighing on her mind.

People communicating and expressing how they feel is genuinely important. Even in relationships that are platonic friendships, and family of course.

Yeah, maybe it would have been nice if they had done that; if you mean e.g. that Kurokawa was never "ugly" just because she didn't put as much effort into her appearance as Fujishiro. Although I don't think these girls have more internalized sexism than the average Japanese girl, beauty and cuteness just happen to be important themes.

The fact that this time Fujishiro called Kurokawa beautiful without any caveats like before ("you're cuter now that I helped you and you don't look like a nerd anymore"), and called her her princess, is not quite the same as explicitly addressing the themes regarding beauty or sexism, but it at least implies that Fujishiro sees Kurokawa in a completely different light than she did at the start, and not just because Kurokawa's looks have changed.
