Me waiting for the butthurt ppl that claim it’s a bad story bc it’s “misandry” just like in the original novel forums lol

You realize what site we're reading this on right?

Don't take the whole "men are exaggerated assholes" as a personal attack from the author, the sexism angle is a driving force of why the MC hates everything she has to live with. Theres plenty of starry eyed ideal world occurrences that happen, but is it wrong for this series to have it when the market is completely saturated with seasonal self insert harems?

Oh, I don't think it's personal, it just breaks my SoD. I can't engage with the story seriously when the world is that nonsensical. That's just how I interact with fiction. I don't begrudge other people their enjoyment, but I figured I should at least offer a heads up to anyone else like me.

Like, the people in this thread asking why she's dressed like that? The answer is literally "because the men say that's what women have to wear." It offers no special defenses. It's not like Dragon Quest bikini armor where it's just assumed to work the same as full plate. Women adventurers in this world are just expected to dress like that and take the stab wounds as they come. I can't take that seriously. It's just not something I can overlook.

I mean, is it wrong for women to have their own power trip story that pokes holes at the concept of useless equipment and gender roles? The series is a lot of dumb fun, with plenty of moments that make you roll your eyes, but sometimes you go on a discussion board and realize "oh wow, there are actually people that think this way about women".

I completely get what you're saying though, I just know a lot of people will hate on it solely for how it addresses at gender roles and depicts men so negatively, so I felt a need to try providing some defence. Its completely fine to just find it not to your taste.

Dynasty is in part an extension of /u/, and theres a portion of /u/ anons that are only into yuri as masturbation material, so its not an impossibility for that to happen.

Of course. It's not wrong to indulge in a simple wish fulfillment fantasy. It's not a crime for there to be an ocean of shitty harem isekais, or revenge porn. But for the same reason I don't read Healer Redo, or any of the countless terrible harem stories out there, I won't read this. I don't really want wish fulfillment. I want a believable world, complex characters, and an engaging plot. None of which you'll find in Exiled.

This is looking like it's gonna be a cookie-cutter isekai but without the isekai.

With the previous posts already made, I'd much prefer if we kept the topic on the subject of the manga rather than the LN. Spoiler potential aside, this tends to splinter discussion and drive speculative meta commentary that doesn't really achieve much. Thank you.

Yes, if this was the real world the women would be getting stoned to death for showing some ankle.

Oh you! Sexy Akiba Detectives... Why do they always find PERFECT manga to translate?

I'll just throw my two cents in since so many people seem to complain about it "just" being a fem lead (yuri) fantasy power fantasy.. that's exactly what I want to read, there's so much harem generic male protag fantasy out there, and this is the other side that I want to see more of.
This looks fun, I'm looking forward to seeing how this will go.

Lol with the over the top asshole men in this universe but YAY for the yuri fantasy battle! I've been waiting for this since I've heard of the novel, in fact I think we discussed the title when it was announced right here.... did I make that post? can't remember, but yeah sexiled is like ... not bad but ... ughhh xD

I'll call it Exiled Team from now on for convenience ...and yeah what up with those MMO clothes she's wearing? let me guess...+20 int or something but designed by some guy lol

Yeah "Sexiled" sounds like the name of a strip club in some edgy early 2000s M for mature game heh

I personally thought "sexiled" refers to people's roommates kicking them out of the room so they can have a significant other over and have sex with that person.

I also found the sexist party leader to be a bit too cartoonishly over-the-top, which was one reason why the light novel never really appealed to me, either. It also doesn't help that the exposition about how long they've been together is delivered in a bit of an "as you know" style, in which two or more characters talk about things they both know.

Ok.. but wth is with that intro? It was supper quick. Did I missed something?

I mean, I know how Japanese view on working women is, no questions there, what I am asking is why does it feels like some parts of the story are missing?

Also, didn't this happened a bit fast?

Also, also: I liked the idea of MC being able to impress the ancient witch with her own worth, as it made their partnership somewhat on the same footing... But the witch went and "tuned her up", turning MC into Generic Isekai MC, which is off considering this is NOT an isekai.

I will keep an eye out for this story, hopefully some of those things don't get worst as it goes on.

That gets explained in more detail in the novel. She didn't give her new powers exactly, she just helped direct MC's power that was always there. Like if you had a bunch of blood carrying veins all tangled up and someone fixed it up to improve bloodflow, but for mana.

I don't know which girl I'm more jealous of, the Magisabre or the witch. Either way, this is gonna have some sweet revenge, I'm sure!

Wow I didn't know that and it makes so much considering the type of inbred dipshits that can be found here

TL credit page is right, "Sexiled" is an awful name. I didn't connect that this was that story until reading the credits.

Maybe, but on the other hand, that title did wonders for the marketing of it. The more literal titles are pretty generic (and unnecessarily long) and would not have garnered nearly as much attention.

Anyway, I don't want to go too spoilery (I've read the novels), but for those wondering about what she's wearing, she won't be wearing it for too long, and it does have an in-universe justification that fits the themes of the story.

And yeah, this series is pretty unashamedly heavy-handed in its gender politics. It didn't bother me, but if it bothers you, I wouldn't recommend it. No, what bothered me were the yuri being much lighter than expected and a particular...something at the very end that I naturally can't talk about yet. The manga may do both of those better, though.

Oh, that is that thing. Personally I would have loved to love the story but it was just so crappily written, like most of the wn-adaptations. And the first manga chapter doesn't exactly improve on it. Meh.

I really don't care if the story is dumber than a box of hair (don't need to suspend disbelief if you never bother to believe in it in the first place) because this is the perfect excuse for Rankarana to go completely bananas on the localization. The goofy dialogue styles she's come up with for both of the main characters here are great, as is deathless prose like, "I'm gonna get those shitbags and beat the shit right out of them."

I agree, it's worth reading this for the dialogue localization alone.

I haven't read the LN but I listened to a podcast that spoke about the series at length. Based on their assessment, I figured I probably wouldn't read it. The instant I saw the description for this manga, I knew what it was (and was shocked that it got a manga adaptation). Based on what I know about the series, I think this first chapter is an improvement. As a writer, I know how powerful visual storytelling can be in comparison to raw prose. The visual storytelling here is really great, with incredible art and putting a lot of the more "egregious" aspects of the LN in the 'background.' For example, Tanya's outfit isn't mentioned at all. While prose would have to elaborate on her outfit and how much skin was showing and blah blah blah, the manga can just show you and leave the implications up to the reader. There's already interesting conversation happening in the comments here in regards to that (despite the people engaging in those conversations believing that it's a negative).

I think this is pretty awesome. The story's developing pretty slowly with a nice pace that allows us to focus on the main characters. This chapter introduces the protagonist, her primary ally, her main motivation, and her goal. We see her power level, a job change, the limits of Laplace's abilities, and the "enemies." It's concise, fluid, and easy to follow. The mangaka's done some great work with the original material and the visual medium only helps it.

On the topic of gender politics, why are we talking about that on dynasty reader? We literally have a tag called [404: Men Not Found]. Comical representations, or lack there of, of men is a frequent occurence in a lot of manga hosted on this site. But this is the one that people complain about? I think that's really silly. At least Exiled has something to say with it. Hyperbole and exaggeration are tools writers use to convey messages and themes. If one of the themes is "patriarchy sucks," then I think this does a pretty damn good job at showing it. Every man in this world is comically, irredeemably evil? Awesome! I've been listening to 1950's radio shows (thanks, mom) and their women are so two-dimensional and they serve such limited roles in their narratives. It's great seeing the shoe on the other foot every once in a while.

Personal verdict: very excited to see how the manga expands upon and handles the original material. The art's fantastic and the mangaka's and translators' combined work will surely produce an interesting series that will breathe new life into the polarizing legacy of Sexiled.

Both harem and feminism are suck. And feminism is even worse because harem at least works with yuri. Seriously? I guess the author is pretty low.

I'm not one who's bothered by it, but men not existing and men being portrayed exclusively as scumbags are very different things. And these complaints do come up in other manga on this site where men are portrayed similarly.
