Also this covid thing has lasted so long that now even characters in anime wear a mask. For example in the OP of Jujutsu Sekai we can see passers by wearing a mask too.
Anyway, I think the April's fool tag was mostly regarding the content of the story within, and not so much as the author writing a story for April's fools, whether that actually kinda happened or not.
