Hu-hum...
Even though I liked the chapter, I'm not quite sure how to comment.
On the one hand, I feel like a lot of the things are (mostly implicit) feminist critique, which is dope.
But on the other hand, this chapter got some fanservice-y stuff that I have mixed feelings about.

While yes it can be seen as general fanservicey stuff but here it's not that. It has a purpose and that is to show how ridiculous women's armour in these games are.
When it comes to fanservice I am actually one of the most sensitive person and most of the time it makes me drop the series. But here it was necessary to show.

It's kinda funny (and somewhat irritating) to see people whining about this being "nonsense" or "written like a caricature of a negative stereotype of a feminist tract" when frankly, like it's already been mentioned and explained, it's still miles and miles better than shit like Rising of the Shield Hero with it's false rape accusation BS, "slave child turned slave bride" with the author bending themselves over to keep justify keeping the character a slave and whatnot. Or Goblin Slayer with it's "evil race of rapist" (that like Terraformars, may cause some iffy real life parallels).

And let's not mention Redo of Healer or similar shit like ntr (since I saw someone mention it), because oh boy that's a whole mall sized can of worms.

Again, like it's been pointed out, the "caricature" of the sexist man isn't even that unrealistic like the "but women wouldn't wear bikini armour even in that situation" complain, when again, it's been pointed out that women can be forced to wear high heels even when it's dangerous. There nothing quite as hilarious and infuriating (not to mention speak volumes about how that shit is deeply normalised) than seeing a barely exaggerated depiction of sexism decried by people as "unrealistic", even more when the most "absurd" elements, like the bikini armour, still has real life parallel.

This kind of story really just highlight how works like RotSH and co are insanely bad, immature and childish and most importantly: conventional and dull as fuck (while thinking they're the opposite) in the worst way possible ultimately.

And show how much more interesting they could be if they had any understanding of actual injustice/systemic discrimination.

Finally some brain cells, thank you

You just answered your question. Whatever her reasons, I doubt whatever she is doing at night would be approved by the school's public morals. And yet, she's still rude and inflexible in her own enforcement of such rules: they're good for the others, but not for her. The fact she's also established to be some rich kid who doesn't even need to work just adds insult to injury, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised that in Japan, like the rest of the world, rules don't apply to rich people as they do to us, mere mortals.

Ngl, you kind of sound angrier that Reiko is supposed to be a rich kid with a bad attitude, and is using her bad attitude as a justification for shitting on her as being rich more than anything else. Is she super arrogant, yes. But is it misplaced, not exactly, she did still earn that #1 spot with all her extracurriculars going on. Her attitude needs to be toned down that’s all and needs to humble enough to recognized as confident rather than arrogant. Not to mention you make it sound as if being “the rich kid that doesn’t even have to work” she isn’t allowed to have her own problems, and we only know that “fact” through rumors so it might not even true at all or her family’s business is actually going under. I’d also like to point out when you mention about Reiko being inflexible with the rules, in that same scene we see Reiko lecturing Serina about the school rules, Serina is also being a complete dumbass and just as inflexible too because like Reiko points out if it’s so hot why is she wearing a cardigan in the first place, taking off that cardigan would do more to cool her off than raising her skirt, but she didn’t even have a good reason in the first place. For all we know Serina probably did that on purpose and those are just finding ways to always butt heads like that to get on each other’s nerves.

I mean but if you want to keep shitting on Reiko for those reasons, I can shit on Serina for being dumb and naive enough thinking she deserves #1 to resort to getting it through blackmail just because she’s in a tight situation, when Reiko who’s juggling several different kinds of priorities and extracurricular is able to earn that spot on her own. Whether or not Reiko is rich, it doesn’t mean she’s undeserving of #1 if she worked hard for it, why should she have to back down from the spot she earned because someone decides to guilt trip her or blackmail her. Both these characters are dumb, not to mention both are unlikeable to a certain extent. It’s just that people know more about Serina’s issues and finds her relatable enough so she gets the sympathy vote since we don’t know enough about Reiko or her deal yet, and from the looks of it, people don’t seem to really care to know because they’ve already up their mind about Reiko without hearing her side of the story or even knowing who she is.

Finally some brain cells

First time comment from a lurker here. Oh my Lord the story really is beautiful that I got carried away.
Please feel free to read my shitty interpretation of the story.
I glanced at my phone, no texts, no reply. I watched the passing scenery from the window of the train as I begin to reminisce about a time where I dearly looked back to. The dearly held memories of her.
I was high schooler back then, albeit a very nervous one. It was supposed to be an ordinary first day of high school but somehow it felt like destiny had something planned. I saw her when I was looking at the crowded train, I saw another high school girl with the same uniform. She drew my curiosity. It was a mere glance and who would have known she'd looked my way just when I was looking at her. We immediately got a bit self conscious and left it at that.
After reaching school, I realized most people had already formed cliques, of course I should have expected this but I felt somewhat sad but that didn't last long. Someone tapped my back to get my attention, and lo and behold, it was the girl from the train I had met earlier. I was surprised but it was welcome one to be sure.
After that we started to hang out and got along rather well, we were close and as time passed we grew even closer.
The passing of the seasons were rather beautiful and the time I spent with here, even more so. As we hopped on the train and took our seats, she fell asleep while leaning on my shoulder and no words can express how happy I am to have her.
As I watched the snow fall once again, I let myself indulge in this bliss and let myself go.
Time passed and we were now entering the phase of transitioning to adults and that meant we had to start taking our studies seriously for our career and pick a proper college. While I had planned out mine and was in ignorance of the reality, it had seemed that she had already made her own plans and to pursue them too. Crunch time began and we spent less and less of the time we shared. Our relationship had drifted a bit but I do not believe that this love of ours died a bit. Until one day she decided to end it, end what we had, I can never tell if it was the best choice to be made but we both knew that to pursue our interest meant we would have to part.
Time passed once again, and with the start of a new spring I was ready to head out towards the city but as I waited for the train, I couldn't help but look back. I felt immense sadness. She wasn't there. I had hoped that she would at least come see me off but she wasn't there but I promised to keep it touch, I will come back to her. If I had searched for her I would have noticed that I wasn't the only who was sad at this departure, she had been there, hiding. I guess we were both unable to be honest with ourselves.
I woke up from my dream of the past. I took out my phone once again, still no reply. The message I had sent recently had been me hoping that we would be able to meet up.
I let out a sigh as I thought back to past, the memory of when we'd ride on the train and were still so close together.
As I stepped on the platform, on reaching my destination I thought about how I'm finally back and maybe just maybe things would be alright. What I didn't see was that she was waiting for me. I guess this love story has a hopeful end after all.

Came back from lurking mode just to reply that this is perfect

Okay.
Point 1: this author's definition of yandere is completely different from everyone else's.
Point 2: I hope everyone else learns the lesson and starts imitating this author!

(In case you can't tell: yes, I really really dislike most of the yandere manga out there.)

Big agree

But that's normal, while I believe people who are taking this too seriously are wasting their time and should reconsider how they enjoy a fictional manga, we still have the right to comment about THE manga, and yeah there's a light novel... But even light novel readers didn't have 10 or 50 chapters from the very start to have a "valid" opinion before commenting what they think of the introduction.

Oh, I absolutely agree. I'm not sure if you didn't quite understand me, but I was just criticizing Yurification's poor assumption that everyone has already read the LN.

My comments were directed towards the one those who said they have read some parts of LN and making others believe its bad and all men are cartoonishly evil in it which is not the case as for those who have only read the first chapter and complaining I hope they find something to read what they like and not complain on every single chapter if they have the problem with premise itself. Complaining once and moving on is totally fine.

While I do agree that the resolution was really weak (and kind of anti-climactic, let's be real), the way Sora's mother handled it was actually pretty realistic. My parents were neglectful, too. Whenever parenting got too hard or something involving me obstructed their personal plans, they had a "fuck this" attitude and would either leave me to figure it out myself or throw money at it for a quick fix-up. The ultimatum she gave Sora is also similar to the kinds my parents gave me, too, when I started reaching adulthood.

So, needless to say, as much as I wish for the climax to be a little more dramatic, it's still cathartic to see Sora's mother leave and I'm happy that Ayaka and Sora are finally together.

Yeah, the arc maybe felt a little forced and sudden, but the actual events of that arc felt super realistic to me. Parents like Sora’s mother seem scary and impossible to budge, but they’re actually just trying to force any potential problems out of the way to make it easier for themselves, and when that doesn’t work they’ll just drop the kid and dip. I think this was a reasonably good portrayal of abusive/neglectful parenting, and the whole thing of rescuing Sora hit hard because me and my found family have had to do that kind of stuff for each other.

Big agree, also finally a quick resolution to such plot points, it feels like a breather and I am very thankful for that

I need atleast 6 more chapters of SoL and wanna see them get married to each other. ALSO SHE FINALLY DID IT!!!

puerile revenge fantasies do not particularly meet my criteria of worthwhile reading.

Okay, then don't read it. It certainly does fit mine so no complaints

I'm going to politely refrain from commenting on your literary taste, but I doth believe I am within my rights to comment on what I find to be problematic with the work.

Ok we heard ya, thanks for sharing your opinions.

And you know what not every man is depicted cartoonishly evil in it, seriously though have these people even read the LN before complaining?

Why should that be some kind of requirement to be allowed to criticize it? This work needs to be able to stand, and will be judged, on its own merits like any other.

And if anything I would say the manga is mostly doing an excellent job disincentivising further exploration of the corpus. If the very first chapter of the manga hits the ham-fisted cringe saturation point less than ten pages in, why in the world should I feel compelled to invest any time and effort into locating and reading the original LN in the first place?

Good, hope you move on from this read something which you actually like and not dropping on every chapter for complaining since reading further chapters would be waste of your time.

Oh, I remember this WN. It absolutely should not be taken seriously. Just enjoy the yuri and the comically stupid douchebags being put in their place.

Yeah I think this sounds about right.

I should note I'm not complaining about the series so far. I honestly know very little about it, and have mostly only heard loose things about the original source material. I did say that the men are cartoonishly evil and that the series does feel like it's intentionally slanted in that direction, which I believe to be a likely correct statement, but I don't believe I ever said that was a bad thing. Fiction exists to express all sorts of feelings and ideas, and if the author is feeling wronged by all the crappy sexism in the world and is using this narrative of cartoonishly evil men getting their asses kicked as catharsis, more power to the author I say.

Edit: Plus I know also know cartoonishly evil people do actually exist in real life as well. Though I don't believe they're the norm, as the average person is just trying to keep their head down and get by day to day. There's also people that are constantly striving to improve and make the world a better place. Lots of people in the world and all that.

And you know what not every man is depicted cartoonishly evil in it, seriously though have these people even read the LN before complaining?

Social commentary on the shitty treatment women get at the hands of men in Japan (and globally) is arguably not common enough. People who are complaining about the men being "cartoonishly evil" should really take a step back and realize what sort of absurd shit is normally just accepted in anime/manga. Something to counter the typical sexism should be welcomed rather than dismissed.

Agree

joined Jul 1, 2020

People complaining about every men being depicted cartoonishly evil should go and read the LNs again. There is also a reason why its a fantasy setting and the reason for so much of sexism in it is revealed in the novel. And also try living in some of the countries around where I live and then tell if these cartoonishly evil men don't exist. I am not 100% sure but sexism in Japan is very prevalent and an author trying to up it to get a point across is nothing bad.

Ps. Read the novel again up till second volume

Also I hope they don't come complaining about it again and again in every other chapter. If you don't like the subject and the way it is being potrayed in this story complaining one is enough. Thank you.
