Damn Sal jiang getting axed is really unfortunate, while I have my criticisms it did seem like she had a lot to say with this one and it was fresh. The cancellation might explain why the pacing was faster since she didn’t know if she’d get another volume so all in all pretty big bummer she didn’t get to tell the story she wanted

So peak! I like the continual reinforcement of the kouhai to the senpai’s hobbies and how it compared to her husband. The expressions in this are too cute

Koga you spineless fool! This ch kinda felt too similar to the one two chapters ago, wish it went somewhere else with the conflict but oh well

Everything in this volume has been about those characters and their issues. They've continued to be developed and have continued to be the center of the narrative, while the broader story has expanded. I'm not sure what this means.

It’s partially to comments clarifying its action not romance when people bring up the main characters relationship developing as if character relationships with one another weren’t a big focus of the narrative before. That’s why people are talking about their relationship, platonically romantically, in either context. So I don’t get why some comments are getting uppity about people mentioning it. And it’s still categorized as yuri too, talking about yuri isn’t unfounded for a yuri action comedy etc work. I get this has action, but that’s not really the issue

I partially agree with what you said, they do develop, but instead of having a couple smaller conflicts that could develop alongside one main focus, now it’s like dumping all the plot lines and focusing on them all at once.
You could say the broader narrative is being developed along with them and I could also say it’s trying to juggle so much and introduce so much that it feels like everything gets cut short to move on to the next thing. It’d probably be better reading it all in one sitting, cuz to me with the fast pacing and monthly schedule the plot just doesn’t flow as well reading it as it comes out. If you think everything is developing fine then that’s good, I just don’t think I do, but I said it before, with this new development I’ll be hopeful

Yeah, it looks like some people have reading comprehension problems when a story isn't all about lesbians making out or going "but we're both girls".

True, the release pacing isn't great, but the storyline is pretty clear. It's an action manga. Not a romance manga.

We just got introduced the main baddy witch.

I mean I don’t think it’s too crazy that when you set up two characters in the first volume that have unresolved conflict and an interesting dynamic and then spend most of the second volume on completely different things that people’s expectations are gonna be different. If the plot didn’t try to introduce so many things at once this volume maybe it wouldn’t feel as jarring, but most of the first volume was just setting up the main characters and them getting up to some antics with small drops of lore and like one action scene. Most of this volume was setting up a larger cast of characters and them also getting up to antics and honestly lots of flirting with some lore, it’s only the last couple chapters that really go full action so idr think I’d go into this thinking it’s an action manga yknow, maybe comedy with deeper lore, but action eh

I’ll be honest I was mainly hooked from the original dynamic between sadako and hanako and thought it’d focus more on them since it was so fun. But after all the witches were introduced not much of anything has happened between them and I can’t tell if the plot is genuinely taking hanako and the stuff with tae wol more seriously now with them being the only two to actually talk to each other one on one, cuz I can’t remember a chapter since where sadako and actually talked to each other in any meaningful way since other characters came in. And since the black and white series my trust in where this author goes with pairings is up in the air. So while the plot and visuals are exciting I’m beginning to be a bit disappointed if it goes on like this. Hopefully with this recent chapter it’s a sign hanako will face sadako and clear whatever’s going on with her up.

A fictional man who did in fact force himself on a fictional woman, and all the poster did was point out something the text itself made clear was him forcing himself on her and her not enjoying it

He in fact did not force himself on her. But Yarai did. Readers just want to excuse it because she's a cute girl in a yuri work and Ritsu ended up liking it, so Yarai gets away with it.

It’s a cute simple lighthearted manga, theres no need for this for either the dude or yarai. Taking their actions this severely is like being up in arms about SpongeBob encouraging workplace abuse because of the krusty krab. It’s not a manga that takes things that seriously so what’s the point in trying to spin it that way.

Anyways I’m glad the guy was chill and hope theres more cute couple moments

I like that at the end of this chapter you can see them wearing what the other one picked
I was half expecting there to be a thing of momo not wanting to wear something frilly but I think it’s cute they both went along with it

^haven't read run away with me so I don't know how heavy the drama is, but
maybe
https://dynasty-scans.com/series/a_timid_woman_longing_for_her_delivery_girl

Thank you, I have read this one before but it was nice to reread.

Two of my top 10:

  • Even Though We're Adults (might be the most familiar to Run Away with Me Girl but is very real and fantastic). The official release is up to volume 8 of 10. There's 50 chapters, so only 10 left for the official translation.
  • A Joyful Life (the title might as well be a joke but it's a lovely, meaningful, slow burn story and ends how you'd want it to. Really cool experience with humor sprinkled around but deals with some heavy, realistic stuff.)

A couple more (there's more if you want):

  • The Glass
  • Club Amour
  • Would you, Could you?
  • Ohana Holoholo
  • Goodbye My Rose Garden
  • Us Right Now (Webtoon)
  • Opium
  • Octave
  • What Does the Fox Say?
  • Let me give love to you, I will give a flower to you (and the sequel: The Appeal of Marriage)
  • I Want to Quit Being a Hitman

Ooh, ive actually never heard of some of these but I skimmed a couple and it’s definitely in line with what I’m looking for, thank you. I’ll take as many refs as you got.

Of all the compensated yuri stories to come out recently, this one’s started out pretty well. I like how chill they are when they interact. Sendai seems cool.

Anyone know any stories, series or oneshot, that has heavy drama but ends on a good note?
Similar to run away with me, girl.

I actually find this story refreshing in a lot of ways. I'm so used to seeing "prince" type characters who feel burdened by their persona or create a faux masculinity out of social obligation that it's really nice to see a "prince" character who genuinely feels comfortable and happy with her own masculinity. She actually feels butch, even if it's a butch identity filtered through the prince archetype lol.

I also really liked how they dealt with the whole rival/touchiness situation. The typical manga solution to this is usually framed as though it's Haruka's fault for not being assertive enough and the solution is she acts more assertive, but here not only does Rena deal with the issue herself, but Haruka's percieved passiveness is actually because she respects Rena's boundaries. Both of these little twists serve to give Rena a lot more agency that I've come to expect from this type of shoujo love triangle maiden role, and in framing the "solution" to the issue to be that Haruka should just ask before touching her, it resolves the jealousy and insecurity that Haruka was feeling while also reiterating Rena's agency. Her feelings of "I don't always wanna be touched by people" is maintained as a legitimate boundary she set up, which is exceedingly rare for romance manga to this day.

I could write more but I'm curious what other people thought. I think the story has more depth than some are giving it credit for.

Agreed I liked this one a lot. I was actually surprised people found this one so generic. It’s a typical plot but changes up the archetype tropes with characters. I liked how the childhood crush character also was framed as not just willfully oblivious to the other prince’s advances and directly calls her out on it, pretty refreshing. I really like how she communicates what she wants and tells the mc she doesn’t want to be touched and that the mc actually respects that and is rewarded for that at the end bcuz it really seemed like it was going to go the route of you just need to be pushy and then your love will be reciprocated, so that was nice. I’ve also rarely ever seen a manga just talk about people’s boundaries not specifically in the context of romance, like just not wanting to be touched whenever. Rena is a pretty proactive character compared to a typical love interest which was nice to see. It’s small changes to how characters react, but it does make them feel a little less like plot beats

Rec’s with a specific dynamic?

I made the mistake of starting lily of the valley and need to wash my brain out after ch 4. Anyone know anything oneshot or series with the same character dynamics, a strait laced and attentive character with a naive and innocent character?

After re-reading it and looking at the hand moves and the dialogues, I think there's more than meet the eye here. It's not only a cheating story.

What I understand is that it's a tug war between the sister and the girlfriend. The girlfriend is dating the brother so that the sister "gives up" on her brocon (page 4).

So yeah, it's toxic, but it looks like the girlfriend was waiting for the sister to come home and uses the brother to show her that her bro doesn't care about her so that she moves on from her brocon.

And the sister wants her bro to dump her, both because she thinks the gf is "trash" (and she loves her bro) and because she wants her for herself.

Beautiful.

I second this. Sister seems like an actual brocon but since having a thing with girlfriend is growing actual hate/love feelings for her, thus angrily climbing on top of her, but still does it under the pretense of it all being about the bro. Girlfriend seems like she’s somewhat aware of this and teases her both cuz it was initially true and half to keep up the pretense. Girlfriend also seems like she wants the sister, since she told her to give up on him and initiated holding hands (plus the hand on the thigh). So both seem to kind of want each other, but are in denial and will never admit that out of pure spite and vitriol and instead use brother as a way to continue their relationship. In other words, it’s complicated.

Chapter 58: bro this chapter got me pissed off. I already hated this fucking character but this was hard to get through. And why does the best character gotta suffer so much emotional damage. The worst part is I feel like evil black hair girl is just gonna start spewing crap again and get away with it. Here’s hoping Nene or Sumika won’t stand for it and will stand up to her but who knows.
if anyone’s got spoilers on the next chapters, please tell me Sumika gets a good ending

Manga oneshot I think I might’ve seen it on mangdex but I don’t remember. Two girls childhood friends, one was really shy and scared of boys and the other one was protective of her when they were young, but then during highschool the protective one became too overbearing and the other one pretended she had a boyfriend by carrying around a condom to prove to her friend that she was growing up and to see her differently. They both cry and make up at the end.
