Something about experiments to create gates between worlds. The two either accidentally got mixed up in it and met in that place for a short time or they were purposely used for an experiment and then got their memories wiped.

While I do agree that the two Marikas may have been switched before, I doubt it was on purpose, at least if Lily is right and the lab is indeed a few decades old. Accidentally stumbling on an anomaly left in the area due to old experiments seems more likely in this case. I guess we'll see once we get the next bits of this chapter, though...

I actually didn't say that the Marikas got switched... I was just asserting that Normal!Marika and Yuri!Lily met that short time as children because of the experiments. Whether they were just in the area and got involved by accident or whether both or one of them was a test subject, I don't know.

I actually don't think the Marikas got switched. Maybe Yuri!Marika wasn't even involved in that flashback at all. Like I said, Lily talking to her about meeting when they didn't might have sparked her interest in the shrine/lab in the first place.

That page does seem to imply that our Marika actually was the one from the yuri world, who somehow crossed over to the "normal" world when she was a kid, exchanging places with the Marika from there, who was stuck in the yuri world until she figured out how to finally get back.

Hm, makes me wonder if the Yuri Government purposely interfered because they didnt want to spread the anti-male virus... or if they didn't want men to return period.
Which reminds me, if that virus really was that effective, wouldn't switching the Marikas lead to the impending apocalypse in Normal!world? Well, that would be the case whether they were switched as children or only now... Wonder if the author will even address that issue.

So let me take a guess: Either MC is the cersion that existed in the Yuri World to begin with and got replaced with the other one right after that supposid flashback or it's a memory overwrite aka rewrite of events to to extended exposure to the Yuri Reality.

I tried to figure it out before reading the comments, but that first part makes so much sense that it might as well be a spoiler (which I know it's not). It would explain why alternate MC knows she doesn't belong there since she was straight, unlike everyone else in her world. I also like how MC knows Lily's kiss wasn't just some "normal" ritual in their world or "camouflage". In other stories, the character would just wonder about what the kiss meant and come to the wrong conclusion. No need for that here

Funny you mention that - even back in Chapter 2, Marika's friends are speculating that the only reason Yurika's going out with her is for her boobs.

They realised that pretty late.

I think Marika was originally from the Yuri world and ended up in the het world by mistake. Same with alternate world Marika.

The ideal resolution to this story is the alternate Marika detonating a yuri bomb in the other world thus making both worlds yuri only

Euthanasia is probably not the most accurate term, I was just purposely making a snide comparison. The idea to euthanize an ethnic group, race or in this case an entire sex, is definitely one that existed for a long time though. Ethnic cleansing is often also called euthanasia.
Whether this is achieved by making that ethnic group/sex infertile or genetically impossible to be conceived or just straight up killing all of them, makes very little difference, morally speaking.
