Sigh—this thread really needs a sticky FAQ for this question.

This has basically turned into two different series because of external events, mostly political ones.

Others here know the details more fully than I do, but my understanding is that the author was on the verge of publishing a print volume when a governmental crackdown in China on LGBQT media content derailed everything.

That initial continuity-heavy ensemble-ish story has been replaced by a SOL story focusing on scenes of SJ & QT being cute* together while treading very, very carefully concerning any content that might attract negative attention from the authorities.

And who can blame them?

This is the next time they met up after that. (Notice QT still has SJ's jacket at that point) So it turned out to be a non-event between them. What really got dropped is Sun Jing's interaction/shooting down of Mo Xiaonan. After that we got this:

where SJ is teasing QT about the kiss and what it means for them, but we didn't really get back to a clear narrative of any sort until the amusement park date. We did get to see here

that Mo is unhappy, so either she's upset that SJ shot her down, or SJ ditched her to go catch up with QT. Either way, it doesn't seem like we're going to get that bit filled in anytime soon.

Like Blastarr said, the going theory is that the crackdown on LGBT media and the ensuing fallout affected the artist for awhile, but that is pretty much just speculation, we don't really know why she ditched the plotline.

Dad is alive.

In Chap. 60 QT describes playing basketball with her dad as a little kid but just being able to toss the ball back and forth, and that later, "he didn't have time."

In Chap. 66, Dad calls and cancels dinner plans on a night when SJ is visiting.

Chap. 104, QT says that her Mom and dad separated when she was young.

So he's not dead, just mostly absent.
