(Ugh) What is it about vampires. They are suppose to be, quite literally, blood thirsty monsters, preying upon humanity. The evil creatures, that lurk in the night. Why does everybody make them into romantic heartthrobs, that make young girls gush their tighty whiteys? Oh well at least this vampire is working for team yuri. and she doesn't sparkle.

t. Dracula

Dracula was originally a complete monster too. He was given sympathetic backstory later when it become a trend.

As vampires don't exist, they can have any characteristics an author wants them to have.

Only if the partner is around the same age and even then that's pretty damn borderline. We aren't in medieval times anymore.

One might think after ~300 years of romanticisation of the vampire mythos that people would accept it as the new standard. Whose depiction are you arguing for, Eastern Europeans from the 12th century?
Vampires haven't been mindless monsters since the Victorian era. Drăculea Vlad III. became Dracula and vampires became more humanized.

At best you could argue there are several sub-species of vampire. The ones in romantic fiction tend to be the sophisticated "higher vampire" type. That's all there is to it.

Yeah, yeah yeah. I got that. My question is: why are vampire romances so popular? Why do so many people want to read stories where a high school girl hooks up with a centuries old blood sucking undead monster?
My undying love for yuri makes this story palatable, but otherwise it would have been a hard pass. Probably accompanied by me grumbling about stupid vampires.

For the same reason people like "Abducted by the Highlander" (include glossy naked-chest dude cover) and "Taken by the Billionaire" (include suave dude in a suit on the cover) garbage?

I tend to like vamps if they work as a good mix of sex, violence, and power, and the author plays around with it. They need to be different enough from humans so there's a point to them not being human, but if they are just a scary monster they are boring too, as that could be anything else as well (a shark, for example ^^). Something that struggles between those two options works best for me.

Obviously that's basically never a theme in vamp romances ^^

I, for once, am glad that we are getting vampire yuri from this author. It is already off for a great start with the blatant yuri so there is no chance that it is gonna stretch out

I thought those were only liked by stay-at-home bored ass moms and teen girls with no life in the seventies? Do people still like them in 21st Century?...I am actually worried about mental sanctity of straight women.

Not like LGBT fiction is above these themes. The ice queen boss and her intern, or the alpha-werewolf and her omega, or ...

Also, MM fiction tends to be the equivalent of yaoi fanfiction, and FF loves it generic and bland A-meets-B romances to death.

Ach, romances. Shit no matter whom they cater to. ^^

Who is Shou? This manga is the first I hear of him.
Also, who was that guy? I don't think he was a burglar but was he really a tresspasser? lol

Edit:

ppl are talking bout plagiarism prism etc can anyone explain me whats up with these?

The guy traced copyrighted pictures for numerous poses and scenes in Prism without disclosing it or anything.

Wow, that's really bad.

'Beartrice'...what a great name

I hadn't even noticed. lol

I'll sound like a massive hypocrite when I say this, but if somebody wrote a Yuri manga with those tropes, 10/10 would read. Now, if these were M/F though...

Can't say i disagree, but lgbt+ content with trashy power dynamics but without actual rape>>>rape fantasy hetero stuff, no? Maybe that's just me...

^This. Exactly this.

I really like his drawing style.

I don't care much about his het loli porn though. I think it's a waste of talent. But everyone has their flaw.

Naw, I agree, but from what I gather these "modern" takes on abducted damsels and so on are maybe Stockholme-ish but not "actual rape". Well, some might argue the thin line between those but let's not get too technical about what's ultimately trashy fantasies anyway ...

And, much as I'm rolling my eyes at them, and I'm somewhat exasperated at them choking out the literary market basically, I am an advocate of "anything goes as long as it's fiction", so. I have to accept the good insanity with the bad ^^

The art is really nice, and both the vampire lead and that guy are intriguing. I wonder if it will turn out to be an action yuri, personally I'm hoping so.

So far, the one vampire yuri manga I really like is Seifuku no Vampiress Lord.

Vampires have been symbols of repressed sexuality at least since the Victorian era (see: Carmilla).

I always blamed Bram Stokes for turning vampires into sauve seductors.

Well, Carmilla predated Dracula by 25 years... So Stoker was just following established trends. :-)

You know the author has a rap sheet when the discussion thread hits 5 pages before the second chapter.

Remember the whole fifty shades of grey epidemic? It was a steaming pile of anus boogers but I'm pretty sure s and m became a little more popular after it was romanticized in that piece of shit novel, just like vamps being romanticised since fuck knows when that started... Also, a parody or alternate universe version called fifty shades of gay, done with either just men or just woman as the main characters, whichever one you fancy! That'd sell right? Cos I think I kinda want the Yuri version already -_-
