I am pretty sure that this is also the answer to Misa's question: The difference between what she does to Io and what her mother and Hase do to her is that Io goes along with the former and runs like hell from the latter. Not really a fan of the keeping her captive thing. I get her insecurities that she thinks Io will run away from her but this girl is a bigger freak than Misa is and clearly does love her. I hope their relationship can eventually get less toxic.

That had to be the most uncomfortable sleep in existence how she was able to fall asleep like that is beyond me. Also the second those got cut and she went to get a cloth to clean up that was kinda adorable how embarrassed she was.

I don't think this is anywhere in the same stratosphere compared to what they were doing with her. I also don't find them very toxic at all. They have a certain play they like to do but besides that they've been alright considering what they're dealing with. When they are left alone they are very domestic and chill.

I agree with Koveras, the difference is that Io is consenting. Misa isn't acually stopping Io from leaving, it's just part of the play. They certainly are codependant and need to communicate more, but there's nothing toxic here.
