The "When I am in love, I am beautiful" line at the end there reminded me of an earlier line; "beautiful people in love are poisonous"

And I just realized that MC was conflating being love with becoming beautiful. Maybe it's cuz I've never experienced it first hand myself, but I wonder if MC actually was in love with Marie?

With the focus on beauty and looks what if MC just got it wrong? And really, she's only obsessed with Marie because she's the one who helped her become beautiful like she had always wanted to.

And again, maybe it's just cuz I've never fallen for anyone, but it seems kinda narcissistic to turn being in love with someone else into smthn about yourself by suggesting that being in loves makes you beautiful. It turns love into this pure(?) thing where you seek out another person and become happy together into this symbol/measure of your own worth.

I think the MC inherently has a twisted idea of what love could be. Maybe she genuinely was in love with Marie, because Marie was helping her see a side of herself that she couldn't bring out before, and because Marie was the first adult in her life that seemed to actually care for her as a person. It could be true as well that she was using Marie too, she was her manic pixie dream girl for lack of a better term.

Well, the MC is clearly not a reliable narrator. She's so obsessed with Marie that it's clouding her judgement in everything. She already doesn't have a healthy idea of what love is, and she harbors resentment for her parents who have been neglectful all her life. It makes sense that she's apathetic to the idea of murdering her father, who she views as having torn the family apart (yes, they were both cheating, but the dad was the one who went a step further to end the family arrangement) and had the gall to try to make a new, happier life for himself in her own childhood home without her. Her hypocrisy and shortsightedness is intentional, because all these combinations of emotions without a healthy outlet are driving her to the extreme.

This. I like how you can tell how deep this girl's love delusion goes with her endless narration about what a good and perfect woman Marie is when clearly, that's not the case. There is no morally good woman who would tell her cheating partner's kid that her mom is also in an affair (which, she didn't show any proof nor someone in her place should tell the kid this information), say Sumire was being jealous of Makoto without taking their relationship into consideration or get into the affair with an older man who has a minor daughter in the first place. Makoto was also so blind in love that she put all the blame for kicking her out of the house on her father without taking what Marie said about this matter into account. Like yes, the father initiated the idea but Marie was agreeing and onto it as well. It's just that she wanted Makoto to live alone rather than living with her mother.

• Be in school's gardening club.

Read this from author's Bookwalker in jp before not surprised to see it eventually show up here. For anyone shocked at the author of eupho producing something like this, it actually seems to be more in line with her other works as they can get pretty dark.

I don't even know if it was a turn... I think she laid it on thick reminding us about the daffodil poisons, but it was definitely setup from the start. Chekov's gun and all that, if the author is telling us about the daffodils's poisons and then the kimchi fried rice using chives.... The daffodils are definitely going into the kimchi.

You could really feel her descend into madness though, completely oblivious to Sumire's despair...

It's not that the technical steps of the process were underexplained, it's that her character and the tone were not set up well to flow naturally into that twist. Yes, she's selfish, in a way that is very realistic and does not, on its own, lead to murder. Yes, she dismisses and resents her parents for understandable reasons, but there are far more mental things someone has to sort through to commit a premeditated murder beyond just, "Do I dislike the victim?"
The tone throughout is somber, contemplative, low-energy, and, despite the discussions of familial collapse and poison, not terribly dark. This contributes a lot to the murder ending feeling hamfisted. It's not a natural conclusion to the art. It's just sudden.

There's a few errors in the first sentence. You wrote "Mum", but then the rest of the sentence reads like you wrote "Mom".

If you're going to use "Mum", the sentence should read more like "WURRR, WELL OI GUESS DA'S BEEN CHEATIN' ON MUM, HE 'AS." And yes, in all caps. British English has many subtle notes to it that people often forget.
