Its good! But feels too ¿fabricated? to cause sadness, like, everything that happens it’s too cliche for me to feel sad even if everything happening is sad. I love the art A LOT so I hope to see more from the artist

Agreed. I think a lot of that is a result of some pacing and tone mistakes. Opening by saying she “came home after dying,” was a good idea, but saying that she came home “after dying is a car accident,” the opening both loses some of its intrigue and prepares us for the accident scene later. Then, they didn’t really do anything to establish the setting or existence of cloning technology until it became relevant, then had to stop to explain the setting and how the characters fit into it. It never really allows the emotions to sink in. That said, the artist clearly has potential, so I’m looking forward to seeing what else they make.

Would "contrived" be the word you're looking for? I agree with your general assessment. This is a good work by an artist with clear potential; the character writing, the premise, the illustration, and the ending are all serviceably good as it is, but what's really captivating is how good they COULD be. Again, they're not bad! They're not "good concept, terrible execution;" I like them even in their current state. My point really is that I think this artist is gonna go far, much farther than this oneshot alone.

Holy oneshot. Its always these short stories that pack the most emotional weight. Its so good I really enjoyed it.

Less exposition might have helped this one out.

"My wife showed up after dying in a car accident."
Yes, great, I'm in.
"She died exactly like this."
Well, like, okay, we didn't really need to know that but okay.
"The year is 2054. Everyone's memories are backed up regularly and can be put into fresh clones. These clones, here."
O-oh...

Not to harp on that too much, it really was good. Especially liked how much attention was given to expressions and body language.

Glad I'm not the only one that immediately thought of that when I saw the title.

I like how while Mel is (understandably) emotionally destroyed upon seeing Nia again, Nia meanwhile is just like “Holy shit I have a cute wife now, awesome!” It’s like an angstier version of Bright and Cheerful Amnesia, at least as far as their premises go.

I adore the disconnect in their relationship. They're in totally different genres of story.

It does feel a bit contrived but I wonder if it"s mainly because of the premise.

To me, Mel didn't feel abusive. People make mistakes, people argue, people sometimes say hurtful things they didn't mean in the heat of the moment. Sometimes it feels like the internet doesn't allow people to be human anymore as everything gets viewed through a magnifying lens that makes flaws become character defining.

But this was a really great oneshot. I'm looking forward to seeing more from this author.

The sudden exposition dump on the sci-fi setting was really jarring and just completely took me out of the story.

Reminds me of this manga I read years ago, though I forget the title. This girl is hooked up to some ludicrously large machinery to keep her alive, with a childhood friend that gets rebuilt as a full body cyborg to be her bodyguard. It wasn't great, but it was 'fine'... until near the end of the first chapter, where in a single panel of an action sequence, he gives a massive info dump on how he came to be a cyborg, and it just completely derailed the pacing. I dropped the manga after that.

This type of story really can't be told well in one short chapter. It would have been better to have a chapter for the setup, a second chapter for the tragedy and consequences, and either finish that chapter with Nia2 arriving wth no further exposition for her, or have a 3rd chapter dedicated to introducing Nia2 and showing why she stayed.
