Ayumu is just so darn earnest and sincere, I'd find her absolutely impossible to resist too if I were in Hayami's shoes :0 It's really sweet how they're both so willing to respect each other's pace and boundaries. That's the foundation for a very long and harmonious relationship right there.

The pace and how they are open about it compared to mangaka's previous works is a literally the opposite, makes me question what they wanted to do at the time

An Aside Told to You had decent pacing too. I think it's simply that "How Do I Get Together With My Childhood Friend", unlike the other series, was all about the "will they, won't they".

Drawing out the conclusion is the point there and as soon as the confession happens, it's over. So it did what it set out to do.

Aside had a bunch of Drama over some Secret that was kind of a nothingburger in the end, so had its own flaws. So far, Confessions is a much more solid work overall.

The way I see it, How Do I Get Together With My Childhood Friend being will they won't they for 5 volumes then ending as soon as the confession went through was an overcorrection for An Aside Told to You where the pair banged in chapter 02 :))
