Bocchi is so goddamn out of character i can't

joined Jun 11, 2021

Bocchi grew to be a beautiful trans woman and i admire the author for that. She's so incredibly out of character though lmao.
All that said, still very cute! I enjoyed it.

Bocchi The Tall!

This was a fun take on an older Bocchi that grew into being handsome and confident, thanks for the translation!

I liked this but the author neglected the earth-shattering moe potential of a tall handsome girl with social anxiety

I don't think Bocchi is totally out of character here, I think the author is just extrapolating those brief moments where Bocchi pulls herself together into an image of her future self!

Okay this was ridiculous (positive) but that panel where her expression didn't change but suddenly HORNY cracked me up in particular

Bocchi is way too OOC in this and I just can't.
Like I'm fine with a little OOC and I love this ship but I can't suspend my disbelief this hard.

The idea is nice but there's something uncanny about it. Like everyone is themselves but Bocchi is a cosplayer or something.

kikuri is too OOC, no drink exists to take her out like that

It's like watching someone cosplaying them both. The feelings are weird to me.

IDK yall. Six years? That’s a pretty long time for personal growth. I was a complete nervous wreck who really struggled socially and spent my time hiding in my room or my dorm for a long time. And after some sort of catalyzing events, yeah about six years later I’m a much more confident person and much better at managing and understanding my own anxiety. Just spending a little bit of time working a service industry job during that period made a huge impact on me over the course of like 6 months. So 6 whole years of being in a band? It’s really plausible to me that she’s changed like that. You can see that she’s still the same person, but yeah she changed a lot.

Is it the bocchi we know? Definitely not, but years later she shouldn’t be. And I feel like that kind of earnest unselfconscious attentiveness is a reasonable place for her to end up.

Boochi is a completely different character I feel like 6 years is kinda nuts for that amount of change

I think everyone should remember that six years ago irl was the year before COVID hit.

Yeah! It’s a long ass time! Six years, especially if you’re young and suffering from mental illness like intense anxiety, is a huge amount of time to grow and change.

Yup, so much has happened over the last few years that even Covid feels so weirdly far away to me...

I get that people change a lot over the years in real life, but in fiction we expect some coherency to it; either showing the change actually happening, or retaining some familiar elements to remind us that this is the same person. When you present a character who does not look or act anything like Bocchi but tell me "this is Bocchi," it feels uncanny.

Again, I think the idea is cute and I get where it comes from creatively, but it feels a bit ambitious for a short doujin to be able to execute on it.

That's a fair take I think. For me I'm treating it similarly to an AU, it's basically an alternate version of the character via how the author thinks the character would progress after a number of years. I understand why it doesn't click for everyone, but I think the author's attempt at a time skip story is genuine and I'm enjoying it for that effort, and it's pretty cute.

Bocchi the Hunk seems like a creation of Bocchi while she's in delulu mode.

I love it.

I feel like the thing that makes it the most jarring(?) is that bocchi is the ONLY one who looks different. They all look the same LOL

And some pages, ngl, maybe it’s just me, Bocchi looked a lil’ like Himmel from Frieren

In the anime, Bocchi’s like, 16/17, so in this manga, shes like, 22/23? It’s kinda unbelievable for the girl who was like, 5’1? To jump 4ish inches, when girls stop growing at 15-18. If shes only been a tall hottie for 3 years, then that means she got taller when she was 19/20, which doesn’t happen

She lowkey looks masculine now

TALLBocchi is rather nice. I think she's discombobulating Hiroi more with her abject goodness and doting nature. Sure, she's TALL now, but her attentive and caring nature, her moments of being really cool when she's not even trying. Yeah, I can see why Hiroi would go for her.

I mean how long could anyone resist if they had their own TALLBocchi carry them around?
