There was a survey done sometime last year, I seem to recall it was about 50/50. I'm not sure where the thread went, used to be a sticky but it's gone now

What's your source for that? I don't know of hard data.

I imagine it can also depend on the type of yuri.

It's really hard to find boys who are seriously into the genre. When I mention yuri to my friends they look at me like I had mentioned lesbian porn or something, and some others would respond like "Yea, that shit's hot!". I mean, I didn't mean lesbian porn, I was talking about the romance! I think boys yawn over girl's romance but get hyped up when they watch or read an ecchi yuri work. I can't imagine a boy who isn't seriously invested in the genre would enjoy reading yuri manga like Kase-san or Girl Friends for an example. Idk much about girls, but I think they are generally more into romance than boys, and that's why there are more girls who read yuri than boys.

Yeah, most people who don't read Yuri while always thought of porn when you mention it like dude no, Yuri is not just a hentai genre. I actually goes on a passionate explanation on a Discord server when someone said that. I would lie if i said i didn't started yuri by the porn side but at some point i found myself wanting to read non-h and that's how i started my journey. First one remember was Flustering Feeling and second was Citrus, could have rougher start but i still keep in it and i don't regret starting Yuri. My bookshelf can attest of that. I don't think i need to precise that a boy, well it's more man but w/e.

I dissagre, I've been into romance since childhood. It was only later that I discovered my actual preference.
I don't think sex has anything to do with liking yuri or yaoi for that matter. You just like what you like.

In personal experience, I haven't gotten anyone into it even when I open up about it. My BFF was a bit more accepting because he is also into romance stuff but I think Gakkou Gurashi is the only thing on this site he follows but he reads it on that one manga site. I hope he actually tries yuri some day lol.

Same. I read 50+ shoujo series and only handful of accidental yuris before I realized the reason I always found guys boring and forgettable was because I wasn't attracted to them.

Dynasty has plenty of porn smut yuri and romance yuri and romance porn smut yuri. So even if the readership is roughly half boy half girl, they may not be reading the same works. Assuming the generalizations even hold.

Me, I'm male, and probably found the site looking for NanoFate stuff. Going by my diary it seemed to take me a couple years to realize dynasty was "a yuri doujinshi site" rather than "a doujinshi site". Or it took me a couple years to look beyond the 4koma I found at first, I dunno. Anyway, I've collected lots of all sorts. I've read most of Milk Morinaga and most of Mira...

Odds are low.

I'm an old lady and I wasn't into yuri at all at first. I just assumed yuri = shoujo and I am not fan of air-headed female leads and cardboard cutout male protags that plague that genre. (I'm looking at you, Sailor Moon.) Then one day I happened across a yuri work, it was not shoujo-like at ALL, and was like, "hmm okay this is nice" and the rest is history lol....

It's pretty interesting seeing how people got into the genre. I never really saw it as being a distinct genre that needed to be broken into, though I acknowledge it has its unique history and culture, because I was just trying to find works with lesbian relationships. Read webcomics with those and while I was searching for some specific FxF manga, came across Dynasty-Scans and that's how I became stuck.

Going back to the original question, the survey results are the best data I know of and they say yes. There's a pretty evenly split proportion of male/female, LGBTQ / not LGBTQ readers. Personally I was shocked to realize "straight cis guys" were the plurality of the readership, though maybe that's not that surprising.

Maybe we should make a new thread for what a few others started kinda off-topic-y talkin' - How did you find yuri and Dynasty Reader? Someone should get around to that.

Well, at least time changed my male-heart for a maiden one. Bad thing is I still have my male body...

As for me, I discovered your (as in lesbian porn) through the prequel of Bible black (forgot the name). One day, an angel came to me, guiding my click on the Internet, ending up on a scantrad site who just published this chapter: https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/secret_stream#2

My heart was beating so fast when I read it. It was at this moment I knew, Yuri is my way. I walked in the desert of yuri that was the French-Internet at that time, once again, an angel would come to me, suggesting dynasty-scan. And although I create an account way later, I'm here for quite few years.

Well, I'm an old straight guy who has always been into romance, particulary if the romance doesn't invoke overdone tropes. At some point I got tired of male love interests since I was too old to identify with shallow boys. Since I'm attracted to women, not to men having two (or more) women attracted to each other felt more emotionally resonant. I do like to know that love interest have a sexual attraction but find most porn to be boring.
