This is seriously disheartening as somebody working on a yuri VN of my own. It's a really big shame that Steam has suddenly backpedaled on their decision like that.

I'd say one of the two flaw. Apparently, it'll still be 800x600. :/ I find it personally more annoying to have outdated resolution than partial voicing.

As for the steam sudden attack on mature material, I think this might be caused by some parents byuing games for their kids without checking the content, then blaming steam for letting those games in their library instead of questioning their own parenting, leading steam to crack the whip. I mean, they knew those games had this content, in the case of kindred spirits, it even caused some debates. And once those games are purchased, it's no longer steam's responsibility if the users install a restorative patch for adult content or mods adding some.

Also, as another mentioned, if they have issues with kindred spirits, then they can also remove games such as the witchers, mass effects (though the latter aren't on steam), conan exiles, skyrim/fallout who have some pretty mature mods and so on... -.-

To me, this whole thing smells like a PR thing.

It'll apparently have widescreen options which hopefully means that you'll at least be able to upscale the window. 800x600 is legitimately painful on a 2560x1440 monitor.

It was apparently attack by some specific group fighting against normalizing of rape, sexual exploitation of minors etc. in video games. And they already succeed. Some games which were already on steam were already removed, like next title from A kiss for the petals, which was announced some time ago and now it is gone. But again somehow big titles which have much more sex in them are not touched. Also the sexual thing was always funny to me, since people seem to totally ignore that violence is much more widely normalized by games, movies and TV than any sexual content (which is 90% of heavy censored and banned) which legit make most people less sensitive to drastic acts of violence. Either way, yea not only it is hypocritical it is, totally retarded cos those games don't harm anyone. Nobody who wouldn't commit a crime in the first place, would suddenly do it because of stuff like that. PC and content policy is marching on.

Yea, they seem to only target jps games and small games. Big titles that have money and fans are not touched. Such hypocrisy.

The worse part is they are removing/telling to change games that they already revised and accept on platform in the first place and only now suddenly they are a issue. Not to mention forcing to remove/changed adult content on adult 18+ games in the first place is also highly retarded. If you are afraid that anyone can say they are 18 and get access to those games, then change your fucking system. I legit got pissed when i bought 18+ game that told me it is for adult etc. only to learn adult content was removed and nowhere on the game page it said so. That is just such plain retardness I can't even understand it. Do steam has something against japanese or something? Are Valve racist?

From what I've seen, part of the blame is also on Steam's side that either for lack of manpower or laziness take any report as gospel without bothering to actually check the veracity and accuracy of the report itself.

Looking at how they let any game pass nowadays, I'm pretty sure they are simply unable to check everything, even if they wanted. Them making any game getting on steam much easier was pretty much out of laziness though.

If that group actually was involved in this ban, it's not really anything remotely PC since it's a Christian right-wing group. It's the exact opposite, in fact. That said, some have voiced their doubts that they're actually involved in this (like Hanako of Hanako Games fame). Apparently, "Morality in Media" called out a bunch of different VNs that are not at all related to the ones that were actually removed. Still, if it is actually them, it makes sense why so many of the targeted VNs have LGBT content. I see a lot of people are having trouble believing this, but just look at the list... there's HuniePop, Kindred Spirits, Roommates, Mutiny, the Sakura VNs (I assume they're all being removed, or at least the ones with patches... if they are, say goodbye to like five yuri VNs and one yuri dungeon crawler), Galaxy Girls, and Coming Out on Top. Yes, KarmaSutra, Tropical Liquor, DEEP SPACE WAIFU, and Re;Lord are obviously not at all queer-related, but, still, it is pretty suspicious that something as relatively innocent as Roommates is being banned but not Grisaia or CLANNAD or whatnot (to be fair, those might not have decensor patches... but Kindred Spirits doesn't either, so, wow...) No one would dream of calling these things porn games, but Kindred Spirits is just 'cause it's gay? Perhaps it's just a coincidence, but it still doesn't look good for Valve.

As for Battle Girls, it seems like it's het, but someone told me earlier today there's apparently a major bi character. So, I guess that qualifies too. Nevertheless, it makes absolutely no sense why two of Dharker's VNs were removed but not everything else... I mean, they're all pretty much equally sexual and Negligee is also a trashy yuri porn thing. What is even Valve's reasoning here?

The only group responsible for Steam's actions is Valve. This goes for every decision on the platform regardless of who people who like the platform want to shift the blame onto so they can keep it okay in their mind to like the platform. Valve and Valve alone is responsible for this and for not curating the dredges of shit on their platform and for distributing a "client" that is a woefully out of date web browser full of known exploits and a shitty AIM clone with retarded censors and a number of half baked features like broken ass 2FA and a non-functioning forums. The only people responsible for fucking with these developers' livelihoods are Valve and the people who support them by buying games on Steam. If you don't like the idea of people whose games you like getting taken to the bank for 30% of sales, being disallowed from selling for cheaper elsewhere by the most stringent exclusive sales contract in the business, being given the runaround for pre-approval vetting of games only to have them discarded at a whim, and being buried in trash to be undiscoverable not to mention requiring steam's shitty DRM ridden client to pay for and download, your recourse is to stop giving money to Valve for it's service and its games.

That is exactly why after this, I decided to never buy anything on steam ever again.
