Yeah this doesn't look like its going to end well. Nina hopping to the fuck her brains out option is pretty unlikely to result in a relationship, unless they spend some more time using their words so Nina actually explains her feelings.

Edit: to expand at bit more, at this stage in the conversation Mao is probably going to interpret this as pity sex. Its clear that she is kinda resentful of Nina and puts her on a pedestal as a selflessly angelic person, and Nina chasing after her like this is just reinforcing this image. Nina taking the time to explain that she has a crush on Mao and that her coming was a selfish decision might puncture through the resentment

However, I think that is very unlikely because Mao has had the tact to not actually voice her resentment at any point, so Nina has no idea how her actions are being misinterpreted.

It was a somewhat inconsistent chapter. The focus should have been on one girl but its kind of unfocused and know we don’t even know why Mao shave her nape. I hope at least they fuck AND we see it, not the typical cut-off sex scene.

Anyway, however this ends next chapter I'm going to wish this was a full fledged series. I really like the way Mao is portrayed and Nina's position as the naive yet obvious voice of reason. If I had any complaints, it's that it was 7 chapters instead of 70.

I know why she shaves her nape, I am talking how the story played with that, it doesn't feel subtle, it feels like an incomplete idea. I like Mao's insecurity, but I think the chapter was all over the place in showing it, not in a subtle way but inconsistently.

I honestly don't care if my comment sounds ridiculous, it's my opinion on the chapter. Also about the sex part of my comment, most likely they will talk and that can lead to 4 options (what I think can happen), they cry and talk or they scream their truths, get 'angry', laugh and overcome the barrier. The other 2 options are self-harm sex or they talk, Nina still wants to have sex to show her the difference, Mao accepts and understands that everything she has done until now was not necessary and everything is fixed.

I'm loving this story, it hurts in all the right ways. Obviously they shouldn't get together, but as long as Nina can get her feelings across (and maybe even boost Mao's ego a bit) I'll count it as a good ending.

yeah but this type of thing is pretty hard to write and can't easily come across as average teenfic if not carefully enough

this dynamic is already hard to write when both of the parties have their own talent, I have seen the "inferior" character having the "superior" character admired and looked up to the "inferior" character, that doesn't make the "inferior" character feel any less inferior, they feel both at the same time, which is so wrenching and painful, the only good outcome is when both parties learn use their own talent to help each other

but now one of the parties is at the bottom lowest line, no matter how much the "superior" character love the "lowest" character, the "lowest" character gonna feel like throwing up because it's a long ass way to heal while the "superior" character becomes shiner and shiner day by day, any human would have dignity and that type of relationship will definitely destroy them

you want them together, either they are both already lowkey fucked up, obsessed with each other, and become even more fucked up, or they gonna have a very longggg and carefully healing journey to be together

nina admires mao's shiny side, and mao being a mess but still yearns to be loved, respected, and doesnt seem like she cares about nina that much, it gonna hard for them to go for the first route, and this story doesnt seem like a long series either, the only satisfying ending the author can go for is the break up after communicating and helping each other a bit

Pretty sure this is still part of the mystery. But the story looks like it's going in the direction of him attacking her insecurities. Sadly, there are lots of stories like this irl, where a partner makes a girl feel like she isn't pretty or smart enough, but the same partner will insist that he accepts her anyway, creating an unhealthy dependency on his validation. We can already see Mao was never as confident as she seemed, the mean comments on her music really got to her, and she's not the prettiest girl in the room, so she already had a lot of insecurities ripe for exploitation.

I don't think Mao is gay enough for that ending. It would turn this into a "crush on the straight girl until you convert her" story, and that kind of wish fulfillment fantasy isn't in line with the tone of the earlier chapters.

Although, there is a bad end along those lines that could work. Nina could end up trapped in the same kind of one-sided physical relationship with Mao that Mao had with the guy. That kind of narrative symmetry can be satisfying, especially in a short story like this. I'm not sure we have time for that in one chapter though, ideally you want to give Nina space to be happy for a bit before you hurt her.

Just the other day I was thinking about the fact that straight women balk at sex with other women either out of disgust or because misogyny is so entrenched in their psyches that being in the presence of another woman while naked will just trigger very unfortunate comparisons and the situation will be pretty unpleasant. Idk if people are familiar with accounts of women who date men who are hypervigilant when they're having sex with men; instead of focusing on the situation, they think "am I hot enough?" So I don't picture a straight woman who suffers from self-image issues magically going "wow, this girl's body turns me on."

And it's cruel to Nina too. Nina genuinely loves her but making someone love themselves isn't easy, much less making them love one back!

As for what might have happened to make her "unhinged"... That's just the result of years of self-hatred. She says it herself, even when she was putting on a confident front, she was crumbling underneath. Now that she had a taste of validation (even if it's shitty and insincere and self-exploitative), she's just clinging to that, because in her mind it's all she has left.

I would actually feel a little let down if there's a "happy" ending.

So I guess like pseudo happy ending? They might end up together down the line? I think Mao still needs professional help this wouldn't magically make her get over her issues. But again at least it's a start. I kinda expected Mao to slap her and then them never see each other again lol

I want to write my full thoughts on the ending, I think it's quite good, but I find it interesting how Mao as a character is more fitting for the title, even though it's a sentiment from Nina. Mao wishes that her relationship with the guy was something more serious, something that he committed to. We see how he's a massive flake in a way, very unreliable in how he doesn't consider it to be a relationship and still leading her on, not even bothering to remember what stuff is hers. Even though part of the conflict doesn't lie within his fault, he still independently is just kinda scummy

I can't tell how long this manga is supposed to be. I enjoy the writing so far, and that their drama didnt get dragged out. But it also feels like it could just end at any moment or be setting up another volume

I really liked this story! It's exactly the style of angst I enjoy. My only complaint is that it's only 7 chapters. XD

Hopefully it does well enough that the author considers a sequel, because I'd really like to see a continuation.
